Zimmer Community Fund (ZCF)

We've launched ZCF to help fund the grass roots nonprofits that make New Mexico a land of enchantment. Their work, in the following areas, make our lives richer:

Propping up New Mexicans in need,
Helping small businesses open and thrive
Stewarding our flora and fauna
Preserving and expanding our vast cultural heritage and arts
Providing pet cats with affordable spay/n

We're pleased to add ACTion Programs for Animals in Las Cruces to the groups receiving end-of-June grants from us this year. They rescue about 500 animals per year -- largely from the municipal shelter. We're happy to include Stray Hearts Animal Shelter on our grant list for the end of this month. They are the only shelter and adoption facility in Taos.

Our next group of grants go out at the end of March. If you are a nonprofit working at the grass roots level to improve the quality of life in New Mexico, visit our web site to learn how our program works. The application deadline is March 10th.

Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless received two grants from us last year. They were founded in 1985 and in 2000 opened a primary health and dental care clinic. It's the only Federally Qualified Health Center exclusively meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness in central New Mexico. We appreciate their work.

Our December grants went out shortly before Christmas to 75 New Mexico nonprofits. They totaled $373,500 with individual grants ranging from $500 to $25,000. Our total 2025 grants were $1,161,700 which was up about 200K from 2024.

Twirl, A Play & Discovery Space in Taos was one of the 33 first-time grant recipients in December. They provide support to children under 12 in Taos County where 1 in 5 children under age four are living in poverty.

We've added several first-time grant recipients to our December recipients. Including one for Cooking With Kids in Santa Fe. They provide hands-on nutrition education programs serving 8,000 children and their families across their 33 partner schools. And judging by the photos, have a lot of fun doing it!

NMCAN (New Mexico Child Advocacy Networks is a first-time grant recipient this month. Young people (ages 14-25) participate in an array of interconnected opportunities that emphasize healthy relationships, leadership skill development and positive systems change advocacy.

To apply for a Grass Roots Grant, simply fill out our online application and e-mail 1-2 photos of your program at work. Deadline for December applications is the 15th.

We're pleased to provide the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaves and Lincoln Counties with a late December Grass Roots Grant. They plan to use it to purchase materials for STEM and art programs and update aging or dysfunctional gym equipment.

The 4th quarter grant window closes December 15. To apply, complete our online form and send program photos by the deadline. Grass Roots Grants range from $1,000 to $25,000 semiannually.

We also offer a $500 Token of Appreciation Grant for small nonprofits with gross receipts under $50,000 that align with our mission but don't completely meet all eligibility requirements.

Carrizozo Heritage Museum is one of these organizations and they will receive their first grant next month. They've transformed a 1950's icehouse into a museum honoring indigenous, Spanish/Mexican, and European cultures.

We are accepting applications for Grass Roots Grants through December 15th. If you have not received a grant from us before, simply complete the online application https://zimmer-foundation.org/our-focus/. We're pleased to include Reforma de Nuevo Mexico in our December grant recipients. They are located in Las Cruces and provide bilingual books for free little libraries throughout New Mexico.

There's still time to apply for a December Grass Roots Grant. The application window closes December 15th. The application is on our website: https://zimmer-foundation.org/our-focus/.

The Northwest New Mexico Arts Council in Farmington will be included for the first time in our December grants. They have an afterschool STEAM program and put on fine arts films, cultural music and workshops and outdoor artisan markets.
