We provide funding to New Mexico nonprofits working at the grass roots level to improve life quality. Seed Money for New Mexico's Grass Roots
The Edw. F.

Zimmer Community Fund (ZCF)

We've launched ZCF to help fund the grass roots nonprofits that make New Mexico a land of enchantment. Their work, in the following areas, make our lives richer:

Propping up New Mexicans in need,
Helping small businesses open and thrive
Stewarding our flora and fauna
Preserving and expanding our vast cultural heritage and arts
Providing pet cats with affordable spay/neuter

So if your one of these organizations, and a grant will make you more effective, please reach out to us. We'd like to help. ZCF is a successor group replacing the former Zimmer Feline Foundation. Visit our web site for details.

We're taking applications now for our end-of-year Grassroots Grants. To apply, simply fill out our brief online application at https://zimmer-foundation.org/grant-opportunities/ and email separately a few photos of your program at work.

If you have received grants from us before, kindly remember to complete an annual application. Without a current application we may still be able to provide a grant, but the amount may be reduced.

The Longears Safehouse in Estancia received a Token Of Appreciation grant in June. They are the only animal rescue in New Mexico that specializes in the needs of donkeys, mules and hinnies.

Since we began three years ago, we've granted over 3 million dollars to 200 New Mexico nonprofits working hands on to improve the environment and life quality of our state.

09/20/2026

Our third quarter grants went out on Friday to 29 New Mexico nonprofits. The amounts ranged from $1,000 to $20,000 per organization. This is the first quarter that we have totally relied on active application to select grant recipients. If you had received grants earlier, but had not completed an application, you can apply now for a late December grant. The program is open to New Mexico nonprofits working at the grassroots level to improve New Mexico's life quality and environment. Click here to review the online application: https://zimmer-foundation.org/grant-opportunities/. The deadline for December grants is December 10th.

We welcomed 6 new nonprofits to our pool including the Talpa Community Center in Rancho De Taos. They serve their rural community by providing a free library and technology access, educational and recreational programs for children and adults including a seasonal community market supporting local vendors.

Since we began our Grassroots Grants program 3 years ago we've granted to 200 organizations for a total of just over $3 million dollars.

This cute little pocket turtle was given to Desert Willow Wildlife Refuge in Carlsbad, New Mexico late last fall after he had been accidentally injured by a w**d whacker. They kept him thru the winter and then re-released when he was healthy enough to be on his own. We appreciate their work. They are the only wildlife rehab center within 300 miles of their location.

We're pleased to add ACTion Programs for Animals in Las Cruces to the groups receiving end-of-June grants from us this year. They rescue about 500 animals per year -- largely from the municipal shelter. Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless received two grants from us last year. They were founded in 1985 and in 2000 opened a primary health and dental care clinic. It's the only Federally Qualified Health Center exclusively meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness in central New Mexico. We appreciate their work.
