Flooding can be stressful—having a plan gives pets
the comfort of routine.
💦 BEFORE
Elevated storage: Keep pet supplies in
waterproof containers on high shelves.
Practice evacuations: Train pets to enter
carriers quickly and calmly.
Waterproof documentation: Store vaccination
records and medical information in sealed
plastic bags.
Identification: Ensure pets have waterproof ID
tags and are microchipped with up-to-date
contact info.
Safe locations: Identify higher ground locations
in your home where pets can retreat to if water

Keep out of floodwater: Floodwaters contain
contaminants and dangerous debris.
Avoid contact with floodwater: Prevent pets
drinking from or standing in contaminated water.

Clean thoroughly: Sanitize all pet items that
contacted floodwater before reuse.
Watch for toxic substances: Floodwater can

toxins that can remain on the surfaces pets may
