🚨 IT'S HAPPENING & EARLY ACCESS SUNDAY! 🚨

Horace has officially started to bloom!

At 4:00 p.m. today, we noticed that our famous Co**se Flower was beginning to open. We compared photos taken throughout the day and sure enough, the bloom had begun! When we checked again before leaving at 6:30 p.m., Horace was open even more!

Because of this exciting development, we will be opening early tomorrow morning for anyone hoping to catch the bloom (and hopefully the smell!).

🌺 Horace viewing begins at 8:30 a.m.
🚪 Enter through the Japanese Garden gates on Estabrook Drive
🌺 Only the Horace viewing area will be open at 8:30 a.m.
🦁 The rest of the Conservatory and Zoo will open at 10:00 a.m.
👋 Staff will be on site to help guide visitors

Co**se Flower blooms are rare, unpredictable, and short-lived, often lasting only a day or two. If you've been waiting to see Horace, tomorrow may be the day you've been waiting for. But then again....this is Horace, and we've learned that Horace does things on Horace time.

See you in the morning!

🌿 Senior Strolls — Tuesday Morning! 🌿

Join us Tuesday, June 9 from 9–10am for Senior Strolls, a special hour reserved for guests 55 and better at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory.

Enjoy a peaceful walk through the gardens before regular hours, when the Conservatory is at its quietest. It's a wonderful opportunity to stay active, connect with nature, and experience the beauty of the Conservatory at your own pace.

While you're here, be sure to visit the Palm Dome, where two impressive Alcanterea imperialis bromeliads are now on display. Native to Brazil, these remarkable plants are among the largest bromeliads in the world. Their towering flower spikes can reach up to 10 feet tall, and their water-holding centers create miniature ecosystems that support insects, amphibians, and other life.

Start your day surrounded by tropical beauty, fascinating plants, and a little extra peace and quiet. 🌸

Some of you may hear reports about an incident at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory today.

Earlier today, we received a report of a threat on our grounds. Following established safety protocols, we immediately contacted 911, evacuated guests and nonessential staff, and secured animals in their care areas while the Saint Paul Police Department conducted a thorough search.

Law enforcement has completed its search and given the all clear. No threat was found.

While everyone is safe, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

We plan to reopen tomorrow and resume normal operating hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

As always, we take every report seriously and will continue to prioritize the safety of our visitors, staff, volunteers, and animals.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

🚨 HE'S BACK... AGAIN! 🚨

Most co**se flowers wait years between blooms.

Horace apparently didn't get the memo.

Just two years after his last bloom, Horace the Co**se Flower is preparing for another spectacular (and spectacularly stinky) appearance!

He's now on display in Como’s Ordway Gardens, and the countdown is officially on.

When will he bloom?

Horace refuses to comment.

Want to track his progress, learn more about co**se flowers, and get the latest updates? Visit:

Because if there's one thing we've learned about Horace, it's that he does what he wants, when he wants.

The objective of a Japanese tea ceremony is relaxed communion between host and guests. It is based not only on the etiquette of serving tea, but on the precise performance and aesthetics of the centuries-old ritual, the beauty of the utensils, the simplicity of the surroundings, and the social aspects of experiencing the ceremony with others. All of these elements coexist in a harmonious relationship with the ceremony.

Limited tickets remain for next weekend!

Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend, Como Horticulturalist Rylee grew from seed and has brought out something truly breathtaking. 🌺

From tiny seeds to stunning blooms, these vibrant poppies are now on display in the Exhibit Gallery just before you enter the Fern Room. The photos honestly do not compare to seeing them in person.

Poppies have long been a symbol of remembrance and sacrifice, making them especially meaningful this Memorial Day Weekend. Their delicate petals remind us both of the beauty of life and the importance of honoring those who served.

But don’t wait too long to visit. Poppies are famous for their short-lived blooms, and these gorgeous flowers will not last forever.

One more reason to spend your Memorial Day Weekend at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.
