It’s Kitten Season — and Bradshaw Animal Shelter needs your help!

Every spring, we see a huge increase in newborn kittens needing care. But did you know… not all kittens found alone are abandoned?

If you spot 👀 a litter:

👩‍👧‍👦 Watch first, don’t touch! Mom is probably nearby hunting or hiding.
⏱️ Wait 6–8 hours to see if she returns — she’s their best chance at survival.
🏡 If she doesn’t come back or the kittens are in danger, call us for advice!
👩‍⚕️ Best case? Bring in mom with her babies so they can stay together and safe.

Meanwhile, we’re in urgent need of kitten supplies to care for the hundreds of tiny paws headed our way:

Bark in the Park is back! ⚾️

Join TEAM Bradshaw on Sunday, May 18th at 1:05PM for an afternoon of baseball, adoptable dogs, and tail-waggin’ fun as the Sacramento River Cats 🐱 take on the Salt Lake City Bees! 🐝

Each ticket sold helps support TEAM Bradshaw, and yes—your dog is invited too! We’ll be hanging out on the back lawn with Dinger’s Pet Pals and lots of other cool pups. 🐾

Sometimes the hardest decisions lead to the brightest futures.

When an animal comes into the shelter with severe leg trauma, infection, or congenital issues, a full recovery isn’t always possible. In those cases, a leg amputation may be the best path forward—not just to relieve pain, but to give them a real chance at a happy, mobile life.

Dogs like Sawyer are incredibly resilient. After his surgery, funded by TEAM Bradshaw, he adapted quickly and now thrives on three legs—running, playing, and soaking up the sun with his new family!

Here are a few facts about leg amputations in dogs:
🦴 Most dogs recover quickly and walk within 24–48 hours post-surgery
⚖️ Weight, age, and overall health are all considered before surgery
✨ Tripod dogs often live full, joyful lives with little to no limitations

Preston’s Story:
From Trauma to Triumph 🐾

When Preston arrived at Bradshaw Animal Shelter, he was in agonizing pain — with multiple maxillary fractures, missing premolars, and suspected open fractures to his cheekbone 💔. It was clear he had suffered a severe trauma to his face.

Without urgent medical care, Preston may not have survived.

Thanks to TEAM Bradshaw’s Special Needs Program — and the generous donors who make it possible — Preston received the specialized surgery he desperately needed. 🏥🩺

Surgeons repaired his jaw, relieved his pain, and gave him a second chance at life.

Today? Preston is adopted, thriving, and loving life. See updated photos in his fancy shirt and lounging on his very own couch. From shelter to snuggles — he’s finally home. 🛋️❤️
