☀️🐾 HEAT STROKE IN PETS: KNOW THE SIGNS & ACT FAST! 🐾☀️

Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency for dogs and cats. Signs can include excessive/heavy panting, drooling, bright red or pale gums, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, stumbling, collapse, tremors, or seizures. Cats may hide or become unusually restless and may pant or breathe rapidly.

🚨 If you suspect heat stroke:
1️⃣ Move your pet to a cool, shaded or air-conditioned area immediately.
2️⃣ Begin cooling with cool/room-temperature water and airflow. Focus on the neck, armpits, groin, paws, and body.
3️⃣ Offer small amounts of water if your pet is alert and able to swallow—never force water.
4️⃣ Do NOT use ice-cold water or ice baths, which can interfere with cooling.
5️⃣ Contact your veterinarian or head to an emergency veterinary hospital immediately, even if your pet appears to improve. Heat stroke can cause internal organ damage that may not be obvious right away.

💜 Prevention is key: Never leave pets in a parked car, provide plenty of fresh water and shade, avoid strenuous exercise during peak heat, and remember that hot pavement can burn their paw pads.

🐶🐱 When in doubt, act quickly. Heat stroke can progress rapidly, and every minute matters!

☕️🇬🇧 A Properly Royal Birthday Celebration! 👑🎂

We celebrated Dr. McLaughlin’s landmark birthday ((29 years young, of course 😉) in true British fashion—with tea, scones, finger sandwiches, sweets, and plenty of royal flair! ☕️🫖🍰

And naturally, no proper celebration would be complete without a special appearance from the Queen herself 👑😂 (Okay… she may have been cardboard, but she still made quite the entrance!)
We even had a Sherlock Holmes wannabe on the case 🕵️‍♂️🔎—making sure no scone, macaron, or birthday secret went undiscovered!
A fabulous morning filled with good food, great company, and lots of laughs. 💕🥂

Happy Birthday, Dr. McLaughlin! 🇬🇧👑☕️

🐾✨ A little inspiration from Ellie… ✨🐾

“Sometimes you just have to stop what you’re doing, climb onto the counter, and remind everyone who’s really in charge.” 😼👑

Ellie’s daily recipe for success:
💜 Find your favorite spot
🐾 Take up as much space as possible
😴 Nap whenever necessary
✨ Look fabulous doing absolutely nothing
😂 And always supervise the humans!

Be more like Ellie: confident, curious, and completely unbothered. 🖤🐈‍⬛

✨Product of the week! ✨
ThunderShirts for Dogs: 🖤

~ What it is: A snug-fitting wrap that provides gentle, constant pressure around the dog's torso, similar to swaddling an infant.
~ How it may help: The pressure may have a calming effect in some dogs by reducing signs of anxiety.
~ Best uses: Can be helpful for:
Noise aversion (thunderstorms, fireworks) 🌩️🎆
~ Mild separation-related anxiety.
~ Travel anxiety🚙
~ Veterinary visits and grooming.
~ General situational stress.
~ Works best when: Put on 15-30 minutes before the anticipated stressful event whenever possible. ⏰
~ Not a cure-all: Response varies between dogs. Some show noticeable improvement, while others experience little or no benefit.
~ Part of a treatment plan: Most effective when combined with:
• Behavior modification/training.
• Environmental management.
• Pheromone therapy or calming supplements (when appropriate).
• Anti-anxiety medication for moderate to severe cases.
~ Client expectations: A ThunderShirt is a low-risk, non-drug option that may reduce anxiety in some dogs, but it is not a substitute for medical or behavioral treatment when anxiety is significant or persistent.

🐾💕 Acupuncture Progress Story: Meet Lani!

At 14 years young, sweet Lani has been making some wonderful progress with veterinary acupuncture, and we’re so happy to share a little of her journey. ❤️

Lani is a former colony cat who was brought to ACC by a Good Samaritan after being found injured. Although her radiographs showed no obvious broken bones, she was struggling significantly with mobility. When she first came to us for acupuncture, Lani could barely prop herself up on her front limbs and couldn’t take more than a step without flopping over.

She had already received conventional medical treatment without noticeable improvement, and after a couple of months, her wonderful caregiver reached out to see if Dr. Herejk could offer another approach through acupuncture.

Since beginning her treatments, we’ve been encouraged to see Lani gradually regain strength, stability, and mobility. By her third treatment, she was noticeably stronger and able to take more steps without falling over. And perhaps one of the sweetest parts? Lani seems to truly enjoy her acupuncture sessions, often settling in and falling asleep while she’s being treated. 🥰

✨ Veterinary acupuncture is a gentle, minimally invasive therapy that may help support mobility, reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, support nerve function, and enhance overall quality of life. It can be used alongside traditional veterinary medicine for pets experiencing arthritis, neurologic conditions, chronic pain, recovery from injury, and other mobility challenges as well as many other conditions.

Every pet is different, and results can vary, but Lani’s progress has been so encouraging. We’re grateful to be a small part of her journey and to see her enjoying more comfortable, confident movement. ❤️
