Rabies ‼️ remains one of the most serious—and preventable—diseases affecting both pets and humans in South Florida. While many people associate rabies with rare or distant cases, recent events close to home highlight why vaccination is critical.

In April 2026, a rabies-positive bat was confirmed in the Arden/Loxahatchee area of Palm Beach County after biting a resident. The individual required medical treatment, and local authorities issued warnings to the community.

This is not an isolated situation.

Across Florida, multiple rabies cases—especially involving bats—have already been reported this year, reinforcing that the virus is actively present in our wildlife population.

Why Rabies Is So Serious⁉️

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system and is almost 100% fatal once symptoms appear in both animals and humans.

It is primarily spread through: Bites from infected animals and Contact with infected saliva entering wounds, eyes, nose, or mouth.

Wildlife such as 🦇 bats, raccoons 🦝 , foxes 🦊 , and skunks 🦨 are the most common carriers in Florida.

Why South Florida Is Higher Risk ⁉️

South Florida’s environment makes rabies a continued concern:

🦠High wildlife population (especially bats and raccoons)

🦠Year-round warm climate supporting animal activity

🦠Frequent human and pet interaction with wildlife habitats

Even indoor pets are not risk-free. Bats, in particular, can enter homes unnoticed—as seen in the recent Loxahatchee incident where a bat was found inside a shoe before biting a resident.

Rabies vaccination is the single most effective way to protect pets and people.

Benefits include: ⬇️

Protects your pet from a fatal disease.

Prevents transmission to humans and other animals.

Reduces quarantine requirements if exposure occurs.

Required by law in Florida for dogs, cats, and ferrets.

Unvaccinated pets exposed to rabies often face strict quarantine—or even euthanasia—due to public health risk.

If your pet is not current on their rabies vaccine, now is the time to update it.

Contact All Paws Animal Clinic today to schedule an appointment 561-790-9225 or to check your pet’s vaccine status.

Keeping your pets and our community safe,

All Paws Animal Clinic Team🐾

This month we are celebrating a very special milestone. Tabby’s 5 year anniversary with All Paws Animal Clinic! 💙

Tabby started her journey with us as a lead nurse, and through her dedication, heart, and hard work, she has grown into an incredible Practice Manager. Over the years, she has become such an important part of All Paws, not only because of how much she cares for every pet who walks through our doors, but because of how much she pours into keeping our practice running smoothly every single day.

Her compassion for our patients, support for our team, and commitment to excellence do not go unnoticed. Tabby brings organization, leadership, laughter, and so much heart to all that she does, and both our team and our clients are so grateful for her.

Thank you, Tabby, for the love, care, and dedication you have given to All Paws over these past 5 years. We appreciate you more than words can say, and we are so excited to continue growing with you for many years to come!

Skin allergies are one of the most common reasons pets visit the vet. Constant itching, licking, and irritated skin can make your pet miserable.

In this All Paws Pharmacy segment, Dr. Strathman talks about three ways we help manage skin allergies. DermAllay shampoo to soothe and support the skin barrier. Welactin Omega 3 to help reduce inflammation from the inside. Cytopoint injections to help control the itch.

If your pet is constantly scratching, we are here to help!
