Happy Father's Day to all the pet dads out there!
If our dogs and cats could talk, we're pretty sure they'd be saying, "Thanks for the treats, the walks, the belly rubs, the comfy beds, and for loving us exactly as we are."
Today, we celebrate the men who have opened their hearts and homes to the animals who depend on them every day.
And for the many animals still waiting in shelters and rescues, Father's Day is a reminder that there are countless pets hoping to find a dad of their very own. A dad to toss the ball, share the couch, sneak them a treat now and then, and give them the one thing they want most... a loving home.
From all of us at Yavapai Humane Society, Happy Father's Day. Your pets may not be able to say the words, but they show their gratitude in a thousand little ways every single day.

There’s nothing we love more than seeing our former residents settle into loving homes of their own. These recently adopted dogs and cats are off on their next great adventure, and we couldn’t be happier for them! Thank you to every adopter who opened their heart and home to a shelter pet. Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes pet owners face difficult circumstances. Before making the decision to surrender your pet, know that Yavapai Humane Society may be able to help.

We can explore options such as:

A Few Minutes Can Be Deadly! Dogs can suffer heatstroke in minutes, even with the windows cracked. When it's 80°F outside, the temperature inside a parked car can reach 99°F in just 10 minutes and over 114°F in 30 minutes. If you're not comfortable sitting in a parked car, neither is your dog.

Found Kittens? Stop. Look. Wait.

🐱 FOUND KITTENS? STOP. LOOK. WAIT.

Your first instinct may be to rescue them—but healthy kittens are often safest right where they are.

Mother cats frequently leave their kittens for several hours while searching for food. If the kittens appear:
✔️ Warm and quiet
✔️ Clean and well-fed
✔️ Hidden and protected
✔️ Free from injury or immediate danger

Mom is probably nearby and caring for them.

Before moving kittens:
👀 Observe from a safe distance
⏰ Wait at least 4–6 hours during daylight if possible
📸 Take a photo and note the location
🚫 Do not move them unless they are in immediate danger

Healthy kittens have the best chance of survival with their mother. Keeping families together gives them the strongest start in life.
