September is a good time to pause.

As we move into a new month, take a moment to notice the animals beside you.
How do they greet you in the morning?
What makes them feel safe?
What little routines do you share?
What have they taught you without ever saying a word?

Our relationships with animals are built in these seemingly ordinary moments.
Sometimes weโ€™re so busy caring for them that we forget to simply be with them.
This month, I invite you to slow down a little. Sit together. Take the longer walk. Put your phone away. Notice the little things.

The bond we share with animals is something worth tending to, too. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿพ

When you need support right away, sometimes having someone simply listen can make all the difference. I offer an initial 1-hour session by phone or Zoom where you can share whatโ€™s on your heart and receive compassionate, understanding support. Whether youโ€™re in the Prescott area or somewhere farther away, you donโ€™t have to wait for an in-person visit to have a caring place to begin.

Book your 60-minute initial session here: https://www.paws4compassion.net/book-online.

Stop by Saturday, September 12 from 10 AMโ€“3 PM at The Center on Rosser! Bring the family, meet local vendors and animal rescue organizations, check out demonstrations, and enjoy a day dedicated to our four-legged, furry, feathered, and scaly friends.

๐Ÿ’œ Come visit the Paws for Compassion booth! Learn more about pet loss and grief support, animal blessings, meaningful rituals, and compassionate care for the people who love and care for animals.

๐ŸŒˆ Honor a beloved companion by adding a ribbon to my Memorial Tree, in remembrance of an animal who has passed. Itโ€™s a simple, beautiful way to acknowledge the love and bond that continues even after loss.

And of course, there will be some free goodies for animal lovers! ๐Ÿพ Come pick up an adorable animal stuffy keychain, memorial hearts or pocket hugs, plus dog toys and treats for your four-legged friends!

Whether you're grieving a loss, caring for an aging animal, or simply want to learn more about honoring the human-animal bond, come say hello. Iโ€™d love to meet you!
And of course, well-behaved pets are welcome! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’œ The Bond Matters.

We talk a lot about caring for our animals, but what about caring for the relationship we share with them?

The little rituals. The quiet moments. The celebrations. The difficult decisions. The grief when we lose them. And the ways we keep feeling connected afterward.

Our animal companions become woven into our lives in ways that can be hard to explain unless you've experienced that bond yourself. They are with us through so much, and they often change us along the way.

That's one reason I became an Animal Chaplain. I don't believe my work is only about loss. Every part of our journey with an animal deserves to be honored.
Sometimes that means a blessing or a meaningful ritual. Sometimes it's support through a difficult decision or simply having someone who understands when things feel hard.

Because the bond we share with our animals matters. The whole journey matters. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿพ Today is National Dog Day! ๐Ÿพ

I've been lucky enough to share my life with some pretty amazing animal beings over the years; most recently our bonded 16-1/2 year old beagles that we had to say goodbye to last year. I'm now enjoying the joys of new dogs coming into my life through fostering United Animal Friends. Each one has left something behind.

Some taught me about patience. Others taught me to slow down.
Some made me laugh when I needed it most.
Some arrived needing a safe place to land and left having changed my heart forever.

And that's the thing about dogs.
They don't simply become part of our lives. They become part of our stories.

The years can pass, circumstances can change, and some of those beloved faces may no longer be beside us, but the bond remains. I still find myself thinking about the dogs who have shared my journey and feeling grateful for every single one!

Today, I'm celebrating the dogs who are with us now, the ones we've loved and lost, and the foster dogs who may have only been with us for a little whileโ€”but still managed to leave pawprints on our hearts. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿพ

Give your dog an extra hug today. Take the long way on your walk. Sit together a little longer.

Sometimes the seemingly ordinary moments become the ones we treasure most.
Happy National Dog Day! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿพ What changes when we become more intentional in the way we connect with our animals?

In my upcoming Yavapai College Community Ed course, we'll go beyond simply talking about the bondโ€”we'll explore ways to experience and honor it more deeply.

โœจ What does your energy and presence communicate to your animal companion?
๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ How can a simple blessing or ritual bring meaning to a new beginning, a milestone, an illness, or a goodbye?
๐ŸŒฟ How can we care for our own hearts while caring for an aging or ill animal?
๐Ÿ’œ And after our animal companion passes, how can we continue to honor a relationship that has meant so much?

We'll explore these questions through hands-on practices, reflection, conversation, healing techniques, rituals, and meaningful ways of connecting throughout every season of an animal's life and yours.

This class is more than just learning about the human-animal bond. It's about experiencing it more intentionally. If animals have ever been your teachers, companions, healers, or family, I invite you to join me.

As an animal chaplain, I work with pet families, shelter staff, veterinary teams, and rescues through the shifts that come with every season of life with animals. Compassionate listening and spiritual care provide a steady presence when uncertainty, challenges, or loss arrive; helping people feel seen, understood, and gently supported. If you or your team in the Prescott, AZ area need someone who can help, let's talk. Learn more and reach out: https://www.paws4compassion.net
