Hot pavement can burn paws faster than you think☀️ 🐾

When the temperature rises, sidewalks, asphalt, sand, and metal surfaces can become much hotter than the air around us. A warm summer day may feel comfortable, but the ground beneath your pet’s feet could be hot enough to cause painful burns in less than a minute.

Before heading out for a walk, try the 7 second test: place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws.

🐕 Walk during cooler parts of the day
🌳 Stick to grass or shaded paths when possible
💧 Bring water and take breaks

If your pet is limping, licking their feet, refusing to walk, or has redness, blisters, or damaged paw pads, call your veterinarian.

Summer adventures are just around the corner, and now is the perfect time to make sure your pet is protected!

Keeping your fur babies up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention helps guard against parasites that become more active as the weather warms up. Preventatives are one of the easiest ways to help keep your fluffy family members healthy year round.

Planning a summer trip? Many hoarding facilities require pets to be current on their vaccines before their stay. Checking vaccine status now can help avoid any last minute surprises when it’s time for your vacation.
