While returning from a trip to Canada, Gladys suddenly went into respiratory distress just north of Seattle. “While it was most important to get Gladys stabilized for transport, all we could think about was how to get her closer to home and to DoveLewis who we have always trusted for emergency care.”

From the moment they arrived, relief washed over her family—"from the amazing CSRs to Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and Veterinarians - we were treated with the highest level of compassion and expertise." Over four days in the ICU, she received oxygen, IV antibiotics, and medications to keep her calm and comfortable.

With each day in the ICU, Gladys grew stronger. Her breathing improved, she began eating again, and before long, she was feeling well enough to repeatedly stick her head out of her oxygen kennel—as if to let everyone know she was on the mend. In a moment when every minute counted, Gladys’ family knew where to turn, and that choice helped give them their girl back. ❤️

Have you ever met a Clumber Spaniel? 🐾 Cody is one of the rare ones!

Once the first to greet everyone at the door, Cody suddenly became quiet, hesitant to move, and yelping in pain. Our MRI revealed intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), where spinal discs press on the spinal cord, making even simple movements agonizing.

Our neurology team acted quickly, performing spinal surgery to relieve the pressure. Day by day, Cody regained strength, walking and playing comfortably again.

Rare breed, serious condition, and a recovery that brought him back to the ones who love him most. ❤️

An accident can change a day in an instant, but recovery is a journey. Mr. Persimmons arrived after suspected trauma from being hit by a car, with a fractured jaw, broken tooth, facial swelling, and a sore eye.

Our team wired his jaw to keep it stable and placed a feeding tube so he could get nutrition and medications without stress. He had round-the-clock monitoring, pain relief, and eye care to help him stay comfortable.

Over the month-long recovery, he returned for several check-ins. Each visit, we saw small but important improvements—swelling went down, his eye healed, and he began eating on his own. When his feeding tube and jaw wire were finally removed, Mr. Persimmons was back to purring, playing, and enjoying life with his family.

Each visit, each treatment, each check-in helped Mr. Persimmons heal. In the end, he wasn’t just recovering from an accident—he was gaining more playful, happy moments with the people who love him. ❤️

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) is a contagious virus affecting wild and domestic birds across Oregon.

If you see a sick or dead bird, do NOT touch it. Keep pets away and report groups of affected birds using ODFW’s guidance below.

People across Oregon are being urged to avoid contact with sick or dead birds as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) continues to impact wild and domestic bird populations across the state. There is currently no effective treatment for wild and domestic birds, and the virus can spread rapidly among bird populations and potentially to other wildlife.

What to do if you encounter groups of sick or dead wild birds

- Report groups of sick or dead wild birds to the Wildlife Health lab at 866-968-2600 or [email protected]. ODFW staff are monitoring and tracking continued mortalities. Samples may be collected in cases involving large numbers of dead birds or multiple species. Single dead bird reports are useful for tracking suspicious cases; however, due to limited staff, and resources ODFW will not be able to respond to all such reports.

- Do not handle wildlife that is sick or found dead. If it is necessary to dispose of a carcass, use a shovel or wear impermeable gloves, wash hands with soap and water, and change clothing before having contact with domestic poultry or pet birds.

- Keep dogs away from sick or dead birds. There are no known cases of domestic dogs becoming sickened by contact with sick birds. But hunters should not feed dogs any raw meat, organs, or other tissues from harvested waterfowl, and they should not allow retrieving dogs to interact with sick or dead birds.
