Who says nothing good happens after midnight? 🦉✨

Last month, we had some very special guests at Bridgetown Vet! A local Girl Scout troop joined us to earn their "Night Owl" badge, getting a first-hand look at the vital work our ER and ICU teams do throughout the night. 🌙🐾
These amazing scouts didn’t just come to learn, they came to help!

🎨 They created and hung up "Paw Pals" drawings to brighten the spirits of our patients, staff and pet owners.
🧺 They donated gently used towels and blankets to keep our ICU patients extra comfy during their stay.

We love supporting the next generation of animal lovers!

Want to get involved? If you are part of an educational or community group interested in our Paw Pals program or would like to schedule a group tour of our hospital, we’d love to hear from you.

Duke's Journey 🐾

At the end of 2020, Duke was found sick, emaciated, and unable to walk. A Good Samaritan brought him in for emergency care, and after being transferred to Oregon Humane Society, Duke began a slow, careful path to recovery. With treatment for infections, dental disease, heartworm, and more, Duke fought his way back to health.

Around that same time, Julie was facing her own battle: recovering from breast cancer surgery and chemotherapy during a time of COVID isolation. Hoping for companionship, she began searching for a dog…and that’s when she found Duke.

🧡Their connection was instant.

You can learn more about their story here: https://www.oregonhumane.org/dukes-new-beginning/

For five years, they have been inseparable, navigating life’s highs and lows, including the loss of Julie’s father to cancer.
Recently, Duke faced a new hurdle: a fall while jumping onto the bed resulted in a CCL tear in his left knee. A surgery called a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is commonly performed in cases like Duke's. The surgery stabilizes the knee joint and helps dogs with a torn cruciate ligament return to an active, pain-free life.

With help from our our Veterinary Care Fund, Duke was able to get the surgery he needed. Dr. Bill Banz, DACVS, performed the TPLO, and today, Duke is happily on his way to recovery.

Duke's story is a reminder of what's possible when compassionate communities show up for animals in need. Oregon Humane gave him a second chance at life, and Bridgetown's Veterinary Care Fund helped him to continue living it pain-free and happy.

If you'd like to help support more families like Julie and Duke, consider a gift to Oregon Humane or Bridgetown's Veterinary Care Fund. Donation links can be found in the comments.
