For those of you have had the experience of speaking with Jesica when you call our clinic, you’ve likely felt her genuine compassion and kindness. She has a way of making people feel heard and supported..
As a valued member of our team and a core part of our Client Service Representative team, Jesica has spent the last year helping to create the compassionate, supportive experience our clients and patients deserve. Her kindness & dedication is evident every day and in every interaction.
While she’s been with us at Brooklyn Yard for a year, her presence in the veterinary field has been far longer. Jesica has been helping pets and the people who love them since 2019..
Today, Jesica is yet again confronted with the return of her cancer and the realities of our health care system in this country. After settling back into life after her first treatment—welcoming a new puppy, settling into a new home, and beginning graduate school—she has learned that her cancer has returned.
As she navigates this unexpected challenge and pursues lifesaving treatment, we want to rally around her the same way she has shown up for so many others.
If you’re able, please consider supporting Jesica through her GoFundMe set up by her friend and coworker. Every contribution & share helps lighten the burden and allows her to focus on what matters most—her health and healing.
Thank you for helping us support someone who has given so much of herself to others. ❤️

Earlier this month, BYVH team members Dr. Hooper, Dr. Nuccio, Sarah, and Maya spent a weekend volunteering with to do a high-volume spay/neuter clinic on the Warm Springs Reservation.
🌟In two days, the FNV team spayed and neutered 117 cats and dogs! Each animal also received vaccinations, a microchip, and parasite prevention.🌟

First Nations Vet provides free veterinary care to pets living on Native American reservations, with an ultimate goal of minimizing overpopulation and suffering of cats and dogs in the area. This mission keeps families together, helps keep pets healthy, and prevents animals from ending up in a very strained shelter system.
👉🏽We saw that mission in action. At this clinic, 70 cats were spayed and neutered, and nearly all of the female cats were pregnant. Due to the rate at which cats can reproduce, this program prevented *thousands* from adding to a severe overpopulation problem.

Dr. Hooper has been working with FNV for 4 years, and has been instrumental in getting many of our staff involved. This week, our group is heading out to another FNV clinic at the Umatilla Reservation, and later in May, Dr. Bartsch will join for a clinic in Grand Ronde!

partners with some incredible organizations who have a huge role in the hard-working volunteer team. We really enjoyed working alongside 🩷 A true community coming together to care for people and their pets - we feel so honored to be involved!

As if Fennel wasn’t cute enough in her glamour shot, 👉🏽her sister Marmalade went and got herself a baby chick cuddle buddy. How would anyone get anything done in this house!?
We LOVE getting a glimpse into the daily life of our patients being able to see your family as you see them 🩷

It’s challenging to find time to come together as a clinic, so we’re excited for an afternoon to focus on strengthening all aspects of our patient care and do some fun hands-on skills review!

*Because we will still be onsite at the clinic, nothing will change for our surgical patients tomorrow ☺️

🩻🐶 Roscoe Appreciation Post 🐶🩻

Roscoe came in for sedated x-rays and was an absolute star patient from start to finish ✨

After a busy visit with us, his fam sent the cutest update — Roscoe fully relaxed, soaking up the sun in his backyard like nothing even happened! Exactly what we love to see after a procedure!

Good boy Roscoe! You earned that cozy nap 🧡💤

We celebrated our 100th cat today with 🙌🏽
Pictured is Dr. Lauman and the whole surgery team with our milestone cats!

This partnership means a lot to our clinic, and especially to our surgical team, for they provide nearly all of the care to these patients from check-in to discharge. Many of the cats brought for spay/neuter are feral and scared, so regular interactions with the team are rare, but our veterinarians and technicians are patient and gentle with every cat, sweet-talking to them during each procedure.

is a nonprofit organization fully staffed by volunteers and supported only by donations. Their fundamental mission has been TNR - trap, neuter (or spay), return - to stop the unchecked breeding of community and feral cats. But over the last couple of years, the demand for basic resources for cats has increased to an all time high.

In our tri-county area, only ONE has a County Animal Service that provides varying resources for cats. So as we see the cost of everything go up and the general hardship of just existing right now, people are often left with no choice but to abandon their animals. This is on top of the already out of control feral and community cat overpopulation issue.
Many counties have open shelter policies for dogs, but options are scarce for cats.
has been filling that gap. As a *fully* volunteer-run organization. It’s admirable and also heartbreaking to see. Please check out their instagram for an unfiltered look at the reality of their work, and celebrate their mission with us by donating!

👉🏽Today we’re standing in solidarity with the General Strike and the immigrant communities being targeted and harmed. As a small business, we’re staying open - because animals still need care and support doesn’t clock out - but we’re putting action behind our words.
