The owner of any dog or domestic animal impounded pursuant to the provisions of this division may redeem it from the animal shelter designated by the board, upon the following conditions:
(1) For properly licensed domestic animals under section 10-33, by paying to the clerk-treasurer a redemption fee of $30.00 for the first time any such animal is seized or impounded by the animal warden; a redem
ption fee of $50.00 for the second occurrence; and a redemption fee of $75.00 for the third or any subsequent occurrence. For unlicensed domestic animals, by paying to the clerk-treasurer a redemption fee of $50.00 for the first time any such domestic animal is seized or impounded by the animal warden; a redemption fee of $75.00 for the second occurrence; and a redemption fee of $100.00 for the third or any subsequent occurrence. (2) Presenting proof of the current city license tag for a dog if the owner is a resident of the city;
(3) If a dog, presenting proof of rabies immunization;
(4) If the dog has not been immunized against rabies, or the owner cannot show proof of a current rabies immunization, the owner must present a receipt showing prepayment of the cost of a rabies immunization from a duly licensed veterinarian, and within five days present to the clerk-treasurer, the current rabies immunization certificate; and
(5) Pay the animal shelter for the cost of the board and keep of any impounded dog or domestic animal, including all necessary treatment costs, for the period it was impounded. Release of the impounded animal to its owner may be denied by the animal warden if it is determined the animal is a danger to public health and safety of the citizens of Portage or for any other good and sufficient reason at the discretion of the animal warden.
