🚨 A dog can be an excellent swimmer and still drown.
Sounds crazy, right?
Most dogs know how to swim. What many dogs DON’T know is how to get out of a pool.
When a dog accidentally falls into the water, they often panic and begin swimming along the edge searching for an exit. Instead of finding the stairs, they may continue swimming lap after lap until they become exhausted.
That’s why today’s lesson for Emmett wasn’t about swimming.
It was about survival.
🐾 Find the wall.
🐾 Follow the wall.
🐾 Find the stairs.
🐾 Exit independently.
Today, Emmett had his first experience in the “big boy pool” here at Starmark Academy. While it may have looked like a fun swim lesson, he was actually learning one of the most important water safety skills a dog can have.
Because good training isn’t just Sit, Down, and Come.
Sometimes it’s preparing our dogs for situations we hope they never encounter.
So before you spend your summer poolside, ask yourself:
🛟 If your dog accidentally fell into the pool, would they know how to get out?
☀️ Here’s to a safe, splash-filled, tail-wagging summer for all our four-legged friends.
