Thankful for Philly’s community of advocates ❤️

Over the past few days, our Animal Law Enforcement team has been actively investigating the situation involving a dog on Tioga Street that has gained widespread attention on social media.

After receiving reports, our team responded promptly to investigate allegations of possible animal cruelty. We understand the urgency many of you feel, but we must adhere to proper legal procedures - a process that requires time but is essential for ensuring lasting protection for the animals.

We're pleased to report that through this investigation, we successfully secured the safe surrender of Zeus, the dog featured in the viral posts, as well as another dog from the same property. Both animals are now in our care at our Philadelphia headquarters, where they are receiving thorough medical evaluation and the compassionate attention they need.

We recognize how deeply cases like this affect our community and we're moved by your concern for these vulnerable animals. Every step we take is guided by both our legal obligations and our shared dedication, ensuring we can provide the strongest foundation for their future well-being.

Zeus and his companion now have the opportunity for the safe, healthy lives they deserve.

I originally shared this photo as a story, but it deserves a permanent place here.

Protection from predators is something we take very seriously. It’s not just a one-time fix - it’s an ongoing effort. When people hear that we’re a chicken sanctuary, I often get told stories about how someone used to have chickens...until a fox, raccoon, hawk, or dog got them. And it’s almost always said in a casual, throwaway tone.

But it’s not a throwaway moment. It’s devastating.

Here, we care. And that means constantly improving safety for the residents who call this home. When we were building the new covered run, we originally blocked the ends with bird netting. While that worked, it was never meant to be permanent. So now we’re upgrading to hardware cloth secured with screws and washers.

Creating a home that is safe, secure, and full of love is what we do ❤️
