This week is supposed to be a hot one! When a heat wave hits, keeping your dog cool isn’t just nice; it’s necessary! Overheating can lead to serious health issues like dehydration and even heat stroke. Keep a close eye for early signs like lethargy, vomiting, or a dry nose. 🌡️

Here are 7 simple ways to help your pup stay safe in the summer heat:

💧 Keep fresh drinking water available (bonus points for ice cubes!)

🍦 Make ice cube treats with water or pet-safe goodies

🧊 Freeze damp towels for DIY cooling mats

🐾 Set up a shady splash zone or mini paddling pool

🔥 Do a pavement test before walks and if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws

🕗 Walk early morning or late evening

🐶 Let the panting happen as it’s how they cool off!

🚗 And a must mention: NEVER leave your dog in a hot car, not even for a minute!

Today we also get to celebrate Sammie - who has been a part of our team for NINE years!!! - Happy 9th Sammie!!!

Oh what to say about Sammie....it has been such a joy and pleasure to be a part of Sammie's life, and to watch her grow over the years. She is such a rock steady nurse and teammate, and smoothly takes on extra tasks and manages them with ease.

Sammie joined us very early on, and started shadowing first, and never looked back....she has learned it all on the job, and has grown into one of the most reliable and amazing nurses. Her skills are top notch - and I would trust her with any surgery! She has grown into a very strong and confident nurse who is an incredibly hard worker, and truly cares about every single patient that she assists with.

Sammie has also grown into some other leadership tasks at PRAH too - and oversees and manages all of our orthopedic patients, and our kitten adoption program, and much more! She has fantastic attention to detail, and is very good at communicating with both staff and clients, and is extremely organized...which are all really helpful attributes for managing all that she does at PRAH!

I am truly thankful for Sammie - she is a light in vet med, and I can't wait to see how she continues to grow and lead in the years to come. Happy my friend - here's to many more!!

Dr. Beth has a very important message for you on this first official day of summer… and she came prepared in her brand new shirt... 💩👏

She and Lana are here with your friendly reminder that yearly f***l screenings are an important part of keeping your pets healthy! Parasites like roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms might be visible but others like Giardia and Coccidia can’t be seen at all!!!

We see positive cases all the time, even in pets that seem totally fine. Screening helps us catch and treat things early before they make your pet sick.

So… happy F***l Friday! Bring us that sample!

And yes, we have prepaid kits available if you need one.

Today we have TWO - first up is Raechel is celebrating 3 years being back on PRAH's team!!!

And I say 'back' on the team - because Raechel has actually been with us longer than that! She was one of our very early employees - and took some time off to be a mom to raise her little ones, and then joined us again 3 years ago!

One of my favorite things about her is she is SO kind - she is just the type of person who never has a mean word to say, and is always willing to help whoever needs help! She will jump in wherever she is needed, and can easily work in any of the different areas of the hospital. Her skills are fantastic down in surgery and monitoring anesthesia, but can also smoothly transition to assisting with appointments and educating clients.

Raechel is also extremely compassionate - you can tell she truly loves animals and is so patient and kind with them as well. She has a way with even the most anxious pets, and helps to calm them down with her calm demeanor.

We are so thankful to have Raechel on our team - she is truly a joy to have is a steady presence of just doing the work, and spreading positive energy!

Thank you for being you, Raechel - and happy !!!!

Millie had a chocolate mishap recently and had to come in so we could help get it out of her system. 🤮 She was a total champ through the process (even if she gave us a little side-eye afterward 😅).

We love her adventurous spirit but here’s your friendly reminder:
Chocolate is a no-no for dogs! 🍫🚫. It can be toxic and lead to serious symptoms, even in small amounts.

Millie is doing great now (and back to her curious self!), but if your pet ever gets into something questionable, don’t wait…give us a call right away!
