Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida last night, leaving a path of devastation in it's wake. Wednesday before Milton hit, we were able to get 65 pets out of shelters to safety and Friday morning we will be back for our first post-Milton flight! This flight will take even more pets already in shelters to safety in order to make room for the wave of incoming pets that always follows these storms. It takes a village to make these flights happen and we need your help! Let's save some lives by donating at www.wingsofrescue.org/donate or on Paypal at [email protected]. Big thanks to the rest of our village Alaqua Animal Refuge, The Humane Society of the United States, the Cencora Impact Foundation and KeepingFinn.

WOR is on the ground in Florida and gearing up to save lives, but we need your help! Hurricane Milton has intensified rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico, becoming a potentially catastrophic Category 5 storm that is projected to hit land in Florida late Wednesday. Tomorrow, partnering with The Humane Society of the United States and KeepingFinn we will be flying pets from Labelle, Okeechobee, Highland County and Clewiston to Alaqua Animal Refuge where a temporary shelter has been constructed. Moving these pets to safety before the storm hits is a huge priority as it will free up shelter space for those displaced by the storm.

This is our second hurricane rescue flight in less than a week and these flights are only made possible by the generous support of our partners, donors, and sponsors so please help us make this happen! Donate at wingsofrescue.org/donate, via Paypal at [email protected] or via check at P.O. Box 602030, San Diego, California 92160.

Ticks aren’t only icky, they can carry diseases that are dangerous to you and your pet. Although you can take preventive measures, the truth is, pet owners cannot 100% prevent tick bites. Diseases caused by microorganisms passed through tick bites, such as Lyme, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and hepatozoonosis, can affect any dog, whether they stay inside or only go into the backyard. Ticks have been reported in nearly every U.S. state, although they are more common in the eastern U.S., and can live in any grassy area, making them impossible for the most well-intentioned owner to avoid.
Be sure to keep up on your dog's preventative and have an annual blood test. Tick borne diseases can be fatal if left untreated.
Please contact us and your veterinarian can discuss the best preventative option for your dog, there are topical as well as oral varieties...
Ticks are still out and active here in Pennsylvania and are loving the fallen leaves as a habitat when the tall grasses die down...they will winter over there when the temperatures drop below freezing (32 degrees)...
When possible clear all leaf debris from around your home and areas where pets frequent to lessen the threat of exposure.

The Lepto vaccine is often part of the Distemper combonation vaccine....be sure your pet is up to date on vaccines...Rabies of course is state law...but the other vaccines are a preventative measure to keep them as healthy as they can be
Be sure to discuss the importance of these vaccines with your veterinarian...
It is also HIGHLY recommended to get all dogs vaccinated for Lyme disease BEFORE they are exposed to disease carrying ticks!...Lyme disease can be deadly

Pet owners in Missouri are being more cautious after a vet issued warnings about a deadly disease uptick.
