🐍 As the weather warms up, rattlesnakes are becoming more active across the Valley. This sweet pup recently had an unfortunate run-in with one and required emergency treatment. Thankfully, he is doing well, though he is still recovering from some skin necrosis.
Rattlesnake bites can be extremely serious. Envenomation may cause both local and systemic effects, including:
• Severe pain, swelling, and bruising
• Tissue damage (necrosis)
• Bleeding disorders
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Low blood pressure and shock
• Heart rhythm abnormalities
• Kidney failure
• Neurologic effects
• And even death if left untreated
The severity depends on how much venom is injected and where the bite occurs.
💉 Treatment is time-sensitive. Antivenin is the cornerstone of care, along with supportive treatment, and is typically only available at emergency veterinary hospitals.
🚨 If your pet is bitten or you suspect a snake encounter, go immediately to the nearest emergency clinic. Quick action can save your pet’s life.
Stay alert, keep pets on leash during walks, and avoid areas where snakes may be hiding. Your pet’s safety is our top priority! 💚
