Enriching Your Puppies

“Raising Emotionally Resilient Puppies” is the topic of this month’s National Shiba Club of America column by Corina Tadros. Corina writes, “Whether your puppies are going to companion homes or homes that will show them in conformation, compete in the wonderful world of dog sports, or participate in therapy work, one of the greatest things you can do to set your puppies up for success is to provide them with enrichment. To enrich a dog’s life is to enhance a dog’s life, and the younger you start, the more emotionally sound your puppies will be and the more lifelong benefits you will see.”

“Enrichment is broken down into five main categories that stimulate different areas of the brain: social, sensory, physical, occupational, and nutritional. Puppy enrichment consists of giving puppies a stimulating environment, novel places and things to explore, exercise and adequate space to do so, puzzles to solve and low-level challenges.

“All of these things stimulate them both mentally and physically and play a crucial role in raising behaviorally sound puppies.”

I don’t get to post or respond as often as I’d like but I had to share Mercy’s incredible wins in Perry, GA 2 weeks ago!
Mercy was Best of Breed Thursday in an entry of 17 Shibas, Best of Breed Saturday in an entry of 25 Shibas & Best of Breed/BEST IN SPECIALTY SHOW in an entry of 25 Shibas at Sunday’s Specialty! We had so much fun together! She was also awarded her 3rd Best of Opposite S*x Specialty show on Friday & earned her Grand Champion Silver. Now she’ll take a break from the rings and hopefully be a mom for the first time in just a couple of months! 🥰🥰🥰
