Did you hear that?? πŸ‘‚πŸ””

πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰ The next time you're here, listen closely for our CELEBRATION CHIME. It could mean that a team member completed a procedure for the very first time, a patient has fully recovered from an illness, we received a great Google review, we're celebrating a birthday/work anniversary (or maybe there's a treat in the breakroom!πŸ˜„).

We LOVE to CELEBRATE (all the things) at VCPH! ! πŸŽ‰πŸ™Œ

NOISE PHOBIA, also known as noise aversion, is a condition where pets experience intense fear or anxiety in response to loud or sudden noises. This fear can manifest as various behavioral changes, ranging from mild anxiety to panic and destructive behavior.

Several strategies are available that you can employ to help your pet cope during fireworks displays and other loud events. Effective methods include:

Creating a safe space β€” Designate a quiet, comfortable area in your home where your pet can retreat during fireworks. This could be a basement, a bathroom, or any room with few or no windows to muffle noises. Fill the space with your pet’s favorite toys, blankets, and bedding to provide a sense of comfort and security.

Soundproofing β€” Try to reduce the noise level in your home by closing windows and doors, drawing curtains, and playing calming music or white noise. Doing so can help muffle fireworks noise and create a soothing environment.

Using calming aids β€” Various products can help calm anxious cats and dogs. Compression wraps apply gentle pressure to certain points on your pet’s body to produce a calming effect, while pheromone diffusers and sprays can help create a relaxing atmosphere.

Behavioral training β€” Gradual desensitization to loud sounds can be effective in reducing your pet’s noise aversion. This behavioral modification technique involves exposing your pet to recordings of fireworks or other frightening sounds at a low volume and gradually increasing the volume over time while rewarding calm behavior.

Staying calm β€” Pets often pick up on their owner’s emotional state. If you remain calm and composed, your pet is more likely to feel secure. Offer gentle reassurance with petting, praise, and treats, taking care to avoid high-pitched β€œbaby talk” and fast-paced pats that can trigger anxiety.

Considering medication β€” Detecting your pet’s subtle noise aversion signs can be challenging, so talk with your veterinarian about any abnormal behavior you notice during loud events. Your veterinarian can guide you on the best course of action to soothe your pet’s distress, possibly prescribing anti-anxiety supplements or medications to combat your furry pal’s fear.

Preparing in advance β€” Preparation is key to managing your pet’s noise aversion. Start implementing these strategies well in advance of Independence Day celebrations. Familiarizing your pet with their safe space and practicing calming techniques can make a significant positive difference when the fireworks begin.

While July Fourth fireworks are a beloved tradition for many, they can cause pets to be anxious and fearful. Understanding noise aversion and taking proactive steps to manage your pet’s signs can help ensure you and your furry friend have a safe and stress-free holiday.

If they get lost, how will they find you??

Microchipping - the most important step you can take to ensure your pet gets back home to you if he ever goes missing. It significantly increases the chance of reuniting if lost, especially during emergencies like hurricanes. πŸŒ€πŸŒ€πŸŒ€πŸŒ€

Microchips provide immediate identification and contact information to veterinary hospitals and shelters or rescue organizations, expediting the recovery process. Please also remember to ensure that your microchip registration is up-to-date with your current contact information.

Fast Facts:
1 in 3 family pets will get lost in their lifetime.
Only 6 in 10 microchips are registered.
6 to 8 million pets enter U.S. shelters each year. Most are lost family pets.
Only 3-4% of dogs, and less than 1% of cats, arriving at shelters are microchipped.
Microchipped dogs are 2x more likely to be reunited with their family.
Microchipped cats are 20x more likely to be reunited with their family.

Call us at 727-781-7704 for more information or to make an appointment to get your pet chipped.
