Protecting our kids:

In a world where even protecting children is politicized and debated, there are steps that can be taken to make children harder targets without waiting for politicians. In the next series of posts I'm going to be posting ways to better protect our families in a world where you can't dictate the engagement or threat.

The first FREE resource I'll bring to everyone's attention is the MAYDAY Safety App from Ryan Cleckner, a former Army Ranger and best-selling author. This app is simple to use and free for families, organizations pay a small fee. This app allows you to send a MAYDAY message with exact GPS location to everyone on your network. A user can also send a check in request to everyone in their network if there is an event where status of family is unknown. It can be used for active shooter but also has many other uses such as natural disasters and vehicle emergencies. Remember, as demonstrated in TX, communication is the most important tool when understanding what actions to take in any situation.

22 For You Challenge: Day 4

Spent my time today fishing...definitely not catching. Standing by the water I had to tell myself, "this is what you are supposed to be doing." My mind was thinking of all of the other tasks that I should be working on instead of fishing. We all need help reminding ourselves that taking time away from daily life is not being "unproductive." Taking care of yourself, even as little as 22-minutes, will change your day! Go be unproductive and take someone else with you!

The 22 For You Challenge is a new thing this year. We walked for awareness of the 22 veterans a day that commit su***de due to mental health issues, but we're done with walking for awareness!!! This year we are taking an active part in changing habits toward healthier living for veterans, first responders, and anyone else that feels the weight of the world right now. Happy Mother's Day!

It takes an absolute powerhouse of a woman to keep our family in line! It takes a woman that manages chaos and puts it into some kind of sense daily. A woman that gets us out of the door with everything we need for the day and with us understanding the daily plan. A woman that has built a house into a home. A woman who can fix boo-boos on knees and hurt egos, yes mine too. A woman that intently listens no matter what. A woman that reads just one more bedtime story, just one more bedtime story, and just one more bedtime story.

22 For You Challenge: Day 3

Great friends and great food, two things that bring me joy and help me relax. Sitting at this table are very old friends and very new friends. Don't be afraid to let new people into your life even when the situation isn't the best, they don't only want to only be your friends when you're at your best. How many times have you helped someone that became a friend? Good, now flip that around, do you need help and a new friend? Be open to help and new friends today, it will change your life!

22 For You Challenge: Day 2

Today I spent my 22-minutes flinging arrows. It's not skydiving or going on a great adventure, something doesn't need to be "over the top" to bring joy into your life. A struggle that I have is always trying to make something the "best" that it can be so I enjoy it the "most". I end up putting off the thing that would make me happy because it never will live up to what I want from it. Today however I went out and did something simple that brought me joy. Do you put off things that bring you joy for the same reason? What does something that brings you joy look like?

For the first day of the 22 For You Challenge I spent some time in a wooded peaceful place where I like to take time to clear my mind and meditate. The hardest thing is always making myself and my wellbeing a priority, to take time away from daily life. Make time for yourself today and start changing your habits toward a healthier you!

A new CHALLENGE!:

In May, for the last two years Chaz the Gun Guy has hosted the Ruck for 22 Challenge, 22-days of walking with a ruck for at least 1-mile. The Ruck for 22 Challenge brought awareness to the mental health struggles of those with PTSD, those who have lost their personal battle and to support families of both. Things are changing this year, we've had enough walking for awareness!

This May, Chaz the Gun Guy will be starting a new challenge, 22 For You! This isn't a huge ad campaign, it's purposely a grass roots challenge focused on calling out your friends to take better care of themselves. Dedicating time for yourself is an area that everyone struggles with, "I just don't have time." This challenge is for ANYONE and EVERYONE that feels the weight of the world right now.

The 22 For You! challenge will mean spending 22-minutes focused on something that helps bring joy into your life for 22 days in May and posting a picture of it. It can be something different each day; playing with your dog, meditating, getting a coffee and sitting down with it instead of running out the door. The point is that everyone heals themself differently, but the first step in healing is setting time aside for yourself.

The 22 For You! challenge starts 1 May, start thinking about what makes you happy!!!

Is it the gun, ammo or you?

When trying to get the best accuracy out of a firearm it is critical to isolate different external factors, like you as the operator. The most inaccurate part of your firearm "system" is the human operating the system.

My office mate Max and I share a lot of views on many things: treats, sleep, being outside. I will say that his most recent work, pictured below, has brought us even closer. Customers are often first met at the door of the shop by Max, an 80 # bear skin rug that can be a little intimidating. He will protect, but on command and he's usually happier asking for pets and snacks. Here's to my fur missile that always covers my six! Get'em Max!

"There's no crying in 3-Gun!"

I have to give a huge shoutout to this amazing group of women, all members of the women's shooting team that I coach. I happened to be shooting at the local range when I first shot with them, they were having so much fun on the range that I started smiling. Their passion for shooting and having fun was contagious! I hadn't felt like that after a range session since a time long ago. I had made shooting "work" instead of "fun" and I needed to change that!

When they asked if I would coach them, with a goal of competing in the sport of 3-Gun at a national event within the year, I jumped at the chance. It is the start of our 3rd season together and I still can't stop smiling. These women are true warriors! When someone says they can't do something, you better get out of the way! When people said I couldn't do something, they got behind me and pushed me through!

Nothing to see here, just hanging out!

The delicate balance of communication between crew members that allows this MH-60 to balance on two wheels to conduct this extraction, is what makes the 160th SOAR (Abn) amazing! But, it is the fact that the aircraft will always come, no matter what, that makes Special Operations a brotherhood.

Create a brotherhood where you work/live. The difference between a true friend and a false friend, a true friend will show up when needed the most! Surround yourself by true friends, the others never matter.

That squirrel never saw it coming!!

Just like cars, fi****ms have roles where they shine and can be tuned to fit specific applications. This is a client order for a custom built 10/22 squirrel gun that is as rugged at it is accurate.
