TNR day! Another 15 stray community cats spayed and neutered.

Each unspayed cat with her offspring over the course of 7 years can produce 8,000 cats 🤯

Thanks to the community members who trapped and donated funds, OSU veterinary students who drove down from Columbus to get hands on experience, Miami pre-vet club for volunteering their time, and our doctors and tech for donating their time to help teach vet students surgery.

I’m going home today!

Monty has been feeling sick for the past two months and after an ultrasound with our internal medicine specialist, we found out he had a large foreign object filling up his stomach that started to block his intestines. Monty was hospitalized and had surgery to remove the object and now he’s feeling much better!

Can you guess what the object is?

I’m a Lepto survivor!

Heidi started to feel a little off and was more tired and her family could tell right away that something was wrong. She had a 105.3*F fever and abnormal liver and kidney values on her blood work. We suspected Leptospirosis and hospitalized her for 3 days and treated her with IV fluids and IV antibiotics. She is now back to her normal happy self!

Poor Finn had been sneezing and uncomfortable for a week after eating grass in the park and his mom suspected there was something stuck in his nose. We were able to scope out a FOUR INCH blade of grass from this sweet boy and he is back to his normal self!

Can you spot the foreign object on the endoscopy monitor? 🤧

Happy National Dog Day! Show us pictures of your pooch and tell us what you love about your dog!

Dogs provide us with unconditional love, emotional support, companionship, and help reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness. They encourage physical activity and more social interactions which can improve both mental and physical health for their owners. Additionally, dogs serve in various work roles, including service animals for people with disabilities, military work, and search and rescue operations. 🐶🐕‍🦺🐩🦮🐕🐾

So many ticks!! 😱

A sweet dog stepped on a bed of ticks and was covered in these creepy crawlies. He wasn’t receiving prescription tick prevention so the ticks were feeding and full of blood. This means that the ticks may have spread scary diseases such as Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. He is now on tick prevention and we will be monitoring him for the development of infectious diseases.

Can you guess what type of tick this is? 🔍

Let’s talk about pain. 🤕

As a pet parent, we all want our fur babies to be happy and pain free. If your dog is dealing with severe arthritis, chronic back pain, or pain from cancer, there’s a new technique called ketamine infusions. Each infusion can provide days to weeks of comfort for your pet and it is worth a shot if other therapies have not been successful.

📞 Give us a call and our doctors will evaluate if this is a good option for your pet.

Leptospirosis is a serious infection that is becoming more and more common in our area. Lepto is a bacteria that is spread through the urine of wild animals. When a wild animal urinates and your dog comes into contact with it, then they can become infected. This could be as simple as a squirrel urinating near your front porch and your dog sniffing near a puddle contaminated with the squirrel’s urine. Leptospirosis can cause liver and kidney failure and symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, not eating, difficulty breathing, and icterus (jaundice or yellowing of their eyes, skin, and gums). The good news is that there is a safe and effective vaccine to help prevent infection and serious complications if your dog is exposed to Lepto. Due to the serious nature of this infection and the effectiveness of the vaccine, Lepto is now considered a crucial and core vaccine for dogs by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association). To help protect your dog from this preventable disease, Oxford Veterinary Hospital recommends annual vaccination against Leptospirosis for all dogs.

Cats can rarely become infected with Lepto, but fortunately they seem to be more resistant to infection when compared to dogs. There is not a vaccine available for cats at this time.
