Our mission is cats. Together, we save the lives of at-risk cats, find them loving homes, and advocate for a future where every cat is valued. Cat Town made history by opening America’s first cat cafe in 2014, right here in Oakland. In doing so, we created a new platform to meet elderly, frightened, stressed, sick, and injured cats — a place where adopters could meet them at their best: stress-fre

e, healthy, and ready for love. About half of our cats reside at our Adoption Center until they get adopted. The rest of our cats live in foster homes around the East Bay or in our kitten adoption space at Pet Food Express in Rockridge. Our approach to cat rescue proves these overlooked cats are highly adoptable, and has been shared with other rescues across the country, helping transform what's possible for vulnerable cats. Last week, we announced a $5,000 match for our Emergency Medical Fund.

Now, other donors have stepped up with an additional $5,000 challenge to help Gigi, Finn, and other cats in need of medical care — giving you one more chance to double your gift for cats with emergency medical needs. With this new match, we can extend our challenge to close at midnight on Friday, June 26!

Gigi and Finn have little or no functional eye tissue, but these blind cats are some of the most joyful, adaptable friends we’ve met. They map their space quickly, chase toys by sound, climb, cuddle, and explore their world with admirable courage and curiosity.

What they might lack in sight, they fully embody with spirit — but their eyes persistently leak discharge, and smell like they may be infected. They're ready for the surgeries they need to truly feel their best, which typically cost around $3,000 each.

Now through June 25, every gift to Cat Town’s Emergency Medical Fund will be DOUBLED — up to $5,000. Will you help us unlock urgent medical care for more kittens like Joules, Newton, and Pascal?

When these three kittens arrived at at just one month old, they were battling parasites that were weakening their digestive system. They needed prompt treatment to get healthy and continue growing.

Today, Joules, Newton, and Pascal are thriving because supporters made it possible for us to say yes to the care they needed. Thanks to Cat Town’s Emergency Medical Fund, they received the medication and treatment that helped them recover and get ready for their new homes.

Every year, cats and kittens arrive needing urgent, treatable medical care. The Emergency Medical Fund allows us to act quickly when they have nowhere else to turn.

Tiny panther Jeeves is the type of cat that turns everyday life into an adventure. His foster describes him as a source of joy, laughter, and wonder: “Spending time with him has made me see the world through fresh eyes. It's something special to see his curiosity, wonder and awe at simple everyday things.”

This petite tuxedo boy is a big fan of spirited play sessions, supervising your daily activities, and finding new ways to make you laugh. When the action winds down, he transforms into a cuddle bug — sleeping beside you, following you from room to room, and occasionally sneaking under the covers for extra coziness.

Jeeves would do best as the only cat in the home, and can get a little overstimulated during petting, so he’ll need a family who can read his cues and redirect him with toys when needed.

Right now, every gift to Cat Town’s Emergency Medical Fund will be DOUBLED — up to $5,000. Will you help us unlock lifesaving care for more cats like Snowball?

When Snowball arrived from the city shelter, he was suffering from painful allergies, ear mites, and ongoing digestive issues that couldn't be fully addressed with the shelter’s limited resources. He needed diagnostics, treatment, and time to heal.

Today, Snowball is thriving because supporters made it possible for us to say yes to the care he needed: antibiotics, a specialized diet, an ultrasound to investigate his symptoms, and medication to keep his condition under control.

Sol has become an incredible friend. After more than a year of painful medical challenges, this 4-year-old is now well enough to thoroughly enjoy being a cat!

Sol is FIV-positive and receives a daily medication that has brought remarkable relief from his chronic stomatitis. The medication is easy to administer, and adopters should be prepared for ongoing veterinary follow-up as his recovery continues.

This gentle boy has taken to copying other cats’ behavior studiously and has been great about respecting their boundaries during play, so we’d like him to have a home with at least one playful cat companion. His foster jokes that he and their own cats sound like a thundering herd of ponies when they run around!

Although Sol can be cautious with new people and startles at loud noises, his friendly nature usually wins out. This sweet boy loves attention, enjoys sleeping between the pillows in his foster’s bed to stay close, and quickly charms everyone he meets. His trademark tongue often peeks out adorably from his toothless mouth.

Wonder arrived at the city shelter with both of his eyes severely injured, and got a double enucleation there to relieve him of his pain.

Then, this sweet, affectionate boy was brought to his own Cat Town studio for post-surgical recovery, where we monitored his tummy issues, helped him build a healthy appetite, and gave him exposure to guests who let him cuddle on their laps.

Soon after, the foster guardian who had cared for him before he came to the Adoption Center joined the foster-to-family club and adopted him.

Cat Care Coordinator Belle brought one-month-old babies Eliza and Theodosia into their home to foster. These underweight kittens had chronic diarrhea due to underdeveloped digestive systems, and needed medication and a specific diet. As they grew older and became healthier, their true adorable, playful personalities emerged.

These silly munchkins were adopted, and their new guardians tell us: “Eliza and Theodosia are settling in really well! They are super sweet, fun, and have a ton of room to play so it’s been really entertaining to watch them. They’ve been warming up slowly to us a little more each day.”
