These brand new Beginner Nosework teams — Reign, Grommet, Miley, and C**t — are having SO much fun learning to use their natural gift of their nose! 🐾✨

We are just getting started building a really important foundation in Nosework by creating little scent puzzles for our dogs to solve and giving them the opportunity to work independently from their handlers.

You may watch some of these videos and think, “Why isn’t the handler helping?”

That’s actually one of the most powerful parts of Nosework — we give our dogs the time and space to figure things out on their own. When we let them work through challenges, they build confidence, problem-solving skills, resilience, and real trust in themselves.

I am so incredibly proud of all of these teams! Everyone did such an amazing job, and it has been so exciting watching these dogs take their very first steps into their Nosework journey.

I can’t wait to see everyone next week! 🎉

Here’s a video of Freya working with her handler, Melissa. We’ve been focusing a lot with most teams on not rushing the start line—giving our dogs time to gather information even before they reach it.

So proud of these teams! 🐾

Scout, Charming, and Reign are just a few of the teams that have been working hard each week, and it’s been so much fun watching their confidence and teamwork grow with their handlers.

We’ve been increasing the challenges every class with distractions, working different obstacles, long-line recalls, threshold work, learning to ignore distractions, supervised separation, greetings, and so much more. Every team continues to step up and make great progress. I’d like to keep my classes small so that I can really work with each team individually. 

I can’t wait to see what this Sunday brings and to watch everyone continue to grow. Great job, everyone—keep up the awesome work! ❤️🐶

Attention Sunday Students…

Reign told me all classes are canceled… because it’s finally a beautiful day! ☀️🤣

Just kidding!

After all the heat, humidity, and smoky skies we’ve had, we’re definitely taking advantage of this gorgeous weather. Class is ON!

I’ll be at Niagara K9 all day with Nosework, private lessons, CGC, and Cross Training, so it’s going to be a busy (and fun!) day all the way until 5:30. Looking forward to seeing everyone and getting out there to do some searching!

These are a few of the teams from this morning’s Nosework classes at Niagara K9!
Team Freya and Ditto worked on different container setups with distractions, and our newer teams Brody and Penny did a fantastic job too. Today’s distractions included hard-boiled egg, Italian wedding soup, meatballs, pepperoni, and even the frog 🐸—and they all proved that odor pays and distractions don’t! 👃🐾

I love introducing distractions early in training because it builds confidence and makes them much easier to work through as dogs progress.

Great job, everyone—what a fun day of training at Niagara K9! 💙

👃 LAST MINUTE OPPORTUNITY!

Looking for a fun way to tire out your dog without wearing yourself out? Let your dog’s brain do the work!

Join us tomorrow (Sunday, July 12th) at 3:00 PM at Niagara K9 for a Nosework Try-It Session!

With the heat we’ve been having, comfort matters! This session will be held inside an air-conditioned facility, providing a comfortable environment for both dogs and handlers while your dog learns, searches, and has fun.

Nosework is a fun, positive activity where dogs get to use their incredible sense of smell while building confidence, problem-solving skills, and teamwork with their person.

No experience needed! This is a great chance to try something new with your dog.

✓ Great for puppies, adult dogs, and seniors
✓ No obedience titles or previous training required
✓ A fun way to provide mental enrichment
✓ Each dog works individually at their own pace

Dogs will be crated while waiting for their turn. This gives each dog their own personal space and helps create a calm, focused environment for learning.

Because this is a small class, spots are limited!

🎓🐾 Congratulations to Our Puppy Class Graduates! 🐾🎓

What an amazing group of puppies and dedicated owners! Over the past several weeks, these teams have worked hard building the foundation for a lifetime of success together.

From learning basic obedience and good manners to building confidence, focus, and stronger relationships, every team made incredible progress.

⭐ The best part? Every single puppy passed their AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test with flying colors! ⭐ We couldn't be prouder of all the hard work and dedication these teams have put in.

Cross-Training isn’t about being the fastest, the highest, or the most experienced—it’s about building confidence, learning new skills, and having fun as a team.

This class combines obstacles, problem-solving activities, and teamwork exercises designed to encourage your dog to think, try new things, and strengthen the bond between you and your dog.

The best part? Any dog can take this class! Exercises can be customized to fit your dog’s individual needs, confidence level, age, and any physical limitations.

This class is all about building:

Whether your dog is cautious, energetic, a senior, or just loves learning new things, they’ll have a safe and supportive space to grow.
