🐾 WELCOME TO THE DLC, REX!

Rex graduated the 5 Day Freshman Program and now he’s enrolled in our Enhanced Daycare Program — where we believe socialization should be about a whole lot more than simply putting dogs together and hoping everybody has fun.

There is extreme value in professionally curated playgroups.

At the DLC, we look at behavior, temperament, play style, confidence, energy level, communication and regulation when deciding who should play with who — and when.

Because not every dog needs 20 friends.🐾🫠

Some dogs need one great playmate. Some need a small, balanced group. Some need structured breaks. And some need to learn how to simply exist around other dogs without feeling like they HAVE to interact.

Good socialization should help your dog become more balanced — not reinforce unsafe play, bullying, frantic energy, poor boundaries or just plain WEIRD behavior. 😂

Skies out… toes and thighs out. 😂

Meanwhile, your dogs have collectively decided that sprinklers are the greatest invention since tennis balls. No meetings. No emails. No responsibilities. Just full-speed zoomies, muddy paws, and absolutely zero concern for dignity.

“WATCH ME!!!” 👀 🐾

A dog that can focus on you in is a dog that is starting to understand partnership.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re doing meaningful work in learning and relationship if your dog almost never looks back at you.

why partnership matters.

That look back says, “I know you’re part of this decision.”

That is where real training starts.

Because if the leash, the environment, the other dogs, the squirrel, the doorway, or the excitement always gets more attention than you do — then we don’t have relationship yet.

We have chaotic access.
We have habits.
We have a dog moving through life beside us, but not always with us.

The goal is not to force eye contact all day. (That would be hella weird)

The goal is to build a dog who remembers you matter when the world gets loud.

That check-in is small, but it tells the truth.

Don’t let people label your dog before they understand your dog.

“Bad dog.”
“Aggressive dog.”
“Crazy dog.”
“Dominant dog.”
“Unfixable dog.”

Sometimes those labels say more about the person’s understanding than they do about the dog standing in front of them.

But here’s the other side of that truth:

Don’t protect your dog from reality either.

Love your dog enough to see where they are right now — not where you wish they were, not where they used to be, and not where someone else unfairly labeled them.

If your dog is anxious, say that.
If your dog is reactive, say that.
If your dog is pushy, insecure, overstimulated, under-socialized, fearful, or struggling with boundaries — say that.

The goal is to understand your dog clearly enough that you can advocate, train, manage, and help them grow.

Labels limit dogs.
Reality gives them a starting point.

Know where your dog is standing today, and then build from there.
