🐾 Huge congratulations to Summit and Rachel on their very first Nosework trial at the Miniature American Shepherd Club USA AKC National Scent Work Trial! 🐾

What an incredible milestone for this team! They originally started with me just doing a Try-It Session—and look at them now! From first introduction to earning their very first Scent Work ribbons.

They also compete in other sports like agility, showing just how versatile and dedicated they are.

I am so proud and happy for both of you—what a wonderful journey you are on together, growing and learning as a team. Keep going, team! 🐾

Callie had a blast working this odor puzzle in a large open area paired with some yummy treats! It was so much fun watching all the dogs figure it out, especially with all the distractions around them. Great job, Callie, and all the teams that worked this challenge!

Wow, what an awesome day Saturday was!

My students met me at Glen Meadows Park, where we focused on exterior searches with lots of distractions—from kids and dogs to people playing tennis and everything in between. The weather was gorgeous, and while some dogs were more distracted than others, we worked through it and had a great time.

I often hear people say, “My dog is great at home,” or “I train in my backyard all the time.” Whether it’s obedience or Nosework, the truth is that dogs need experience working in different environments. Practicing at home is important, but getting out into new places with new sights, sounds, smells, and distractions is what really helps dogs build confidence and learn to work successfully in the real world.

Nosework is a wonderful way to build confidence in our dogs, no matter their age, breed, or even if they are reactive.

My classes are held on Saturdays and Thursday evenings at The Barking Lot, starting with Intro to Nosework and progressing all the way through advanced levels. I also offer drop-ins as well as regular four-week class sessions.

Whether you’re looking to trial with your dog, are already trialing and want extra practice, or simply want to have fun and do something different together, Nosework has something for everyone. If your dog is already on odor, we’ll continue building skills and confidence through a variety of search challenges.

For the next several weeks, weather permitting, we’ll be focusing on exterior searches as well as vehicle searches.
