Can your dog search independently while you step back? š¾āØ

In this exercise, the handlers stepped completely outside the search area/fencing to let their dogs work solo.
For dogs that prefer working in close proximity to their handler, this can be tough! Building handler independence is a balanceāknowing when to step in to support your dog versus letting them problem-solve takes time and keen observation.
Want to give it a try at home? Hereās the challenge:
1. Set up a simple search area in a room or behind a secure fence. You could simply do this with treats if you donāt have odor, and your dog is not on odor.
2. Step outside the boundary and let your dog work independently while you observe.
3. Verbally mark the moment your dog finds source.
4. Step in, reward at source, and celebrate! š
