Life is hectic and there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done. Bark n' Roll specializes in providing in-home and in-facility services that cater to the individual needs of our clients and their furry best friends. Whether it's getting your new puppy outside for a run or giving a little TLC to your senior dog, we will come to you to make your life easier and be a fun and frie

ndly buddy to your four-legged family member. Bark n’ Roll is a local and female owned business. Francine Coughlin, CPDT-KA, IAABC, is a certified Trainer and Behavior Consultant, recruiting only the most responsible and passionate members to her Team to keep our furry band members rockin’ every day of the week. Francine received the honor of 2020 Commonwealth Heroine from The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women for her work in dog rescue and in the community. She has never had a time when a special dog (or two, or three!) was not a part of her life. She is the proud "mother" of seven rescue pups, an ABC (Animal Behavior College) certified dog trainer (Honors Graduate), an AKC certified CGC & S.T.A.R. Puppy Evaluator, and a Northeast Animal Shelter volunteer and volunteer trainer. While living in Los Angeles for five years and working in the film industry, Francine got involved with volunteering at various dog rescue organizations and shelters and found this to be an interesting and incredibly rewarding way to devote her time. Now she's back on the East Coast and via Bark n' Roll has incorporated her love for all things canine into a service that promises to bring some free spirited and friendly fun into its clients' daily routines by getting to know their dogs and giving them the rock star treatment.

The Bark n' Roll Chicken Nugget Band bringing you this week's trainer's tip: patience pays off with progress!

Slow it down before you turn up the challenge. If your dog struggles with a new behavior, don't rush to add distractions, distance or duration all at once. Build each one at a time so your dog can be successful. Confidence grows with small victories, not impossible grand encores. Every great rock legend started by practicing in a garage or small venue before headlining a big stage. Your dog deserves the same chance to shine.

Our Daycare Training Goal for July was Field Day Games themed.
Staff had a ball with this fun concept.

Platform Play: Combine get on a platform or structure with another trick.

Longest Stay: Practice Distance, Duration and Distractions!

Best Trick with Paper: Fun experimentation with paper to get a cool trick.

Hula Hoop Bullseye: Using shaping only, get the dog to lay down in the circle.

Fun Finale: Loose Leash Water Relay. This one was a challenge for sure. (Watch to the end!)

Just like this week's wild weather, our fuzzy-faced crew has been all over the map! From sunshine personalities that light up every room, to little mud lovin' clowns, every pup brings their own unique vibe to the Bark n' Roll Band!

No matter the forecast, we wouldn't change a thing. Here's to the beards, eyebrows, grins and muddy buddies, all the bigger-than-life personalities that make every day here unforgettable.

Humans...Say/Give the cue once. Cues aren't a playlist on repeat. Clear communication builds faster and more reliable responses. If you say "Sit, Sit, Sit ...SIT" your dog learns they can wait until the fourth or fifth cue before responding.
Instead, say or give the cue once and give your dog a moment to process, if they don't respond immediately, don't correct them, just be quiet and calmly wait. Mark and reward them for the correct response even if there was a delay. If they don't respond within a minute, calmly reset (touch is great for a reset), and try again giving the cue once.
Less talking, more training is how to keep dogs in the training rhythm!
