💚 Avocado is SAFE — but time still matters. 💚
She has now been waiting 110 days for a home, and while we do not have to euthanize for space at our shelter and Avocado is physically safe with us for as long as it takes, that doesn’t mean time isn’t of the essence.
Imagine this:
Spending more hours of your day in a kennel than outside of it. Being surrounded by unfamiliar dogs with different personalities — some friendly, some overwhelming, some intimidating. Never getting to truly settle into a place that feels calm, predictable, and yours. The best part of your day is a walk or a little playtime with a volunteer… and then you’re placed right back where you started.
You watch cars pull into the parking lot and hope this is the day.
You watch people walk past, fall in love, and leave with new family members — sometimes dogs you’ve grown close to — while you keep waiting.
The longer a dog stays in an environment like this, the harder it becomes. Anxiety increases. Boredom sets in. Stress behaviors can appear — not because the dog is “bad,” but because shelter life is hard. And sadly, those behaviors can make dogs seem less “adoptable,” even though none of it is their fault.
This is the cycle we work tirelessly to prevent, and we need your help to do so.
Avocado has been so strong despite the time stacking against her, but for any dog, it will eventually take its toll. That’s why we put so much heart into helping our longest residents find homes before shelter stress starts to weigh on them. We see that heaviness — and we don’t want it to define her. So please help us find a home for Avocado and our other longest residents before time makes it even harder.
Looking for your new best friend? Consider taking the time to meet a long-term resident before the new dog that just arrived and has many applications. Long-term residents are still good dogs just like any others we have here at the shelter - they're just unlucky to not be "desireable" enough or to have gone unnoticed.
✨ To help Avocado finally get seen, her adoption fee is now 50% OFF until 1/18. ✨
She is a 2-year-old Pitbull mix who is sweet, playful, and incredibly smart. She’s made progress, gained confidence, and even made dog friends here at the shelter. She’s spayed, microchipped, and fully up to date — ready for her next chapter.
🚨 You can help — even if you can’t adopt:
• LIKE this post
• COMMENT anything (it helps more than you think!)
• SHARE so Avocado reaches someone new
Every interaction tells Facebook to show her to more people — and one share could be the reason she finally goes home.
