Tonight, the CAT NIGHTS begin! 🐱 A rather obscure old Irish legend said that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time (August 17), she couldn’t regain her human form. This bit of folklore also gives us the saying, “A cat has nine lives.” 🐱

Warning for Pet Owners – Death Cap Mushrooms Have Been Identified

Amanita phalloides, also known as the “Death Cap,” has appeared in yards and fields across central Indiana. These mushrooms typically emerge between July and November and can be deadly to dogs of all sizes—even with prompt treatment.

They look very similar to harmless mushrooms and can only be identified accurately by an expert. Ingesting them can cause severe liver and kidney damage within 24–48 hours and may be fatal.

If your dog eats a mushroom, contact a veterinarian immediately. Don’t wait—early intervention is critical.

The Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) at Purdue University offers toxicology testing for suspected cases involving mushrooms, nitrates, cyanide, and blue-green algae.

It doesn’t matter what kind of breed your pup is, 90 degree weather is not safe to be walking unless they have protective shoes on and even then it’s still toasty. Just wait til the evening to enjoy a walk together.
Remember the 7 second rule-place your hand to the surface, too hot for you, too hot your pup.

Feels like a good day to catch up on naps. Way too hot to play outside. But what else can we do to burn off some energy?

Puzzle toys: Engage your dog's mind and burn energy with interactive puzzle toys that dispense treats. We love puzzles!!

Hide and seek: Get those sniffers going. 🦴 Hide treats or toys around the house and let your dog find them.

Training sessions: Practice basic commands or learn new tricks indoors. This can be fun! We’ve worked on wiping feet. Place a treat under a towel and your dog will start to scratch to get the towel up. Reward as they’re doing that and say “wipe your feet”
Now next time we have rain you’ll have a helper🐾

Checklist for the 4th of July:

-Keep pets indoors
-If pets are skittish and scared of loud noises take them out on a leash instead of roaming yard.
-adjust times to go out so they’re not out during the bright and loud noises.
-take a picture of them to have current on phone.
-keep a collar on
-add tape with phone number on to collar to help speed up the process of reuniting.
-keep pets in a safe room away from windows and doors
-turn on lamps and tv/music to drown out noises.

I recently had a cancelation for Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th for dogs. I can sit reg times those days and If you have a cat I can watch Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Message me!
