🎢 Vet Med = Emotional Rollercoaster 🎢

In veterinary medicine, we ride the highs and lows daily—heartwarming recoveries, heartbreaking goodbyes, and everything in between. It’s a lot. But here at Viking Veterinary Hospital, we believe in making room for joy, even in the chaos.

That’s why at Viking Veterinary Hospital, we make time for joy and a dash of healthy competition. Enter: the Peep House Contest 🐣🏠 (Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. And no, we didn’t hold back.)

✨ And the Peep-le have spoken! ✨
🥇 1st Place: Luxury Home with an Infinity Pool—because even ER staff deserve to unwind in style and flair.
🥈 2nd Place: Surgical Ward in Action—a foreign body surgery mid-operation (we’re all dying to know what got swallowed).
🥉 3rd Place: SEA’s "Post-Shift Crash Pad"—a dramatic reenactment of collapsing after a long day. Relatable.

To our amazing clients—thank you for trusting us through every up and down. And don’t worry, your pet’s care is always top-tier, even if their doctor is secretly building a Peep mansion in the break room. 😉

🐾 Teamwork Never Sleeps – Even at a 24-Hour Hospital 🐾

Running a 24-hour veterinary hospital means the work never stops — but neither does our commitment to growth, teamwork, and excellent care.

Even with busy schedules and overnight shifts, our staff continues to show up for training and team meetings. Their dedication to learning, collaborating, and supporting each other is what makes our hospital truly special.

Whether it’s 2 PM or 2 AM, we’re here for our patients — and for each other. 💙
Here’s to the kind of teamwork that keeps tails wagging and care at its best, around the clock!

🐘 Tiny-At-Heart Thursday 🐘

Because size is just a number — and Boone identifies as an emotional support Chihuahua.

At just 6.5 months old, this Saint Bernard baby is still figuring out how to dog… but what he does know is that his soul is smol.

Boone may be built like a mini-horse, but in his mind?

He’s a purse pup. A lap dog. A teacup dream wrapped in 80 pounds of fluff.
So today, we honor all the gentle giants who are tiny at heart.

The ones who try to sit in your lap, follow you into the bathroom, and still think they can be carried.

💬 Drop a pic of your own Tiny-At-Heart floof below — we wanna see those big babies living their best emotionally tiny lives.

📣 BIG NEWS, TREASURE VALLEY! 🐾🏆
Viking Veterinary Hospital has officially been named 2025’s Regional “Best Veterinarian in the Treasure Valley” — and we couldn’t be prouder! 💙

We’re a two year old privately owned hospital, built on heart, hustle, and a whole lot of love for the pets (and people) in our community. Our team has been there through late-night emergencies, teary goodbyes, happy tail wags, and everything in between — and this award is proof that it mattered.

Thanks to your support (and all those amazing Google reviews), we’ve been recognized for the care and commitment we bring every single day. 💬⭐

🖼️ Our certificate is in, and a gorgeous engraved plaque is on its way to be proudly displayed in the hospital — a reminder that compassionate, local care still wins big.

And now?
We’re aiming even higher.
✨ Let’s bring home the STATE TITLE in 2026! ✨

Thank you for trusting us with your fur family. We see it. We feel it. And we’ll keep showing up for it — every day. 🐶🐱💪

🦴 It’s Ortho Wednesday! 🦴

Hey World, it’s Annie – and yes, I’m kind of a big deal.

I’ve got a great home, a dad who’s obsessed with me, and my ride-or-die sister Oakley. Together, we dominate the sport of Mice Entrapment. Olympic-level. Gold medal status. Over 400 “trophies” delivered to Dad’s doorstep this year alone.

Dad’s always bragging: “Thanks to Annie and Oakley, my property is mice-free!” You’re welcome, sir.

But every athlete hits a bump. During a high-speed mouse chase, I got hurt. Oakley raised the alarm, and Dad rushed me to THE Dr. Dan Richardson and the Ortho Dream Team at Viking Veterinary Hospital. Three-hour drive? Worth it. Because this Gold Medalist got the GOLD standard TPLO surgery.

Private room. Private nurse. Hand-fed meals. Obviously. Only the best for a dog who's kind of a big deal.

🐾Tiny Tuesday: Chaos Edition 🐾

Say hello to Piper — a 2-month-old Golden Retriever mix and aspiring garbage disposal. 😉 This tiny tornado came in after snacking on some rat bait (Piper, sweetie… why?), and gave her humans quite the scare!

Thankfully, she strutted into the hospital acting like she owned the place, totally unbothered — 10/10 comfy, 12/10 adorable, and 1000/10 unaware of the drama she caused. 😅

She’s doing great now and has promised (with crossed paws) to stick to dog treats from now on. Probably.

Keep your snacks safe, y’all — especially if your "snack" is poison. 😬

Why the Lobby Might Be Lying to You 🐾

🚨 Emergency Vet Visit?

So your pet decided tonight was the night for a medical emergency. We’ve got you—and here’s what to expect when you walk into an emergency veterinary hospital:

🩺 Triage 101
Every pet is triaged the moment they arrive. A trained technician quickly evaluates how urgent their condition is. Just like a human ER, we treat based on severity, not arrival time. Life-threatening cases come first—because this system saves lives. We get that waiting is hard, especially when you're worried. But it's never personal—it's medical.

😬 “Why am I waiting? There’s no one else here!”
Because the real action is happening behind the scenes. The treatment area may be slammed even when the lobby looks calm.

We could be juggling:

🐶 Bowie, who swallowed an entire rack of ribs
🩸 Breggo, septic and needing blood transfusions
🦔 Maverick, who challenged a porcupine (and lost)
🩸 RIP, rushed in for an emergency splenectomy
🍞 Hailey, who thought an entire uncooked sourdough loaf was a good idea

One team. No extras. No backups.
Just the crew behind those double doors you can’t see through, managing it all.

Because the truth is:
You never know what’s going on behind those double doors.
But we do. And we’ve got it covered. 💪🐾

❤️ Bottom line?
If you’re waiting, it’s not because you were forgotten. It’s because another pet needed urgent, possibly life-saving care. And when it’s your pet’s turn, they’ll receive the same level of focused, compassionate care.

We know it’s stressful. We know you’re worried. But we promise—our team is working nonstop to help your pet, just like we’re helping the ones before them.

🌷🐰 Happy Easter, Treasure Valley—Let’s Get Eggstra! 🐰🌷

From all of us at Viking Veterinary Hospital: may your eggs be hidden well, your chocolate be plentiful, and your pets not eat any of it. 🙃🐾

Just a gentle (and slightly dramatic) PSA from your local vet squad:
🚫 Chocolate = toxic
🚫 Xylitol gum = also toxic
🚫 Plastic grass = not salad
🚫 Ham bones = vet bill waiting to happen

We’re here if you need us…
…but we’d really prefer you spend the whole day and night with your family—and not ours. 🐣😅

So keep it safe, keep it sassy, and drop a pic of your pet in their Easter best—we’re ready to judge (lovingly) and swoon. We will start the photoshoot!

🐾 Senior Sunday Spotlight: Ranger 🐾

Meet Ranger — a 15.5-year-old Dachshund with a gentle soul and a not-so-gentle dental abscess. 🦷💥

His mom was understandably a nervous wreck making the tough call to put her senior sidekick under general anesthesia for full-mouth extractions. But Ranger? He crushed it. This little legend came through like a champ — groggy, gumming, and gloriously pain-free.

He’s now on the mend and ready for soft snacks, sun naps, and living his best (toothless) life. 💛

Next up in our collectible lineup: the Off-Roading, Craft-Slaying, Multi-Species-Wrangling Wonder herself, Abby, our General Practice Manager.

She’s been in Vet Med since 2013, but her love for animals started long before that — growing up on a farm packed with all kinds of creatures and showing sheep and horses at the state fair. Basically, she's been living the barnyard dream since day one.

When she’s off the clock, you’ll find her out in the wild (literally) — camping, off-roading, or crafting something awesome with her husband, three dogs, and two adventure cats in tow. After a long day, her favorite wind-down move? Pet snuggles. Lots of them.

This action figure comes fully equipped with experience, heart, and probably a bit of dog hair. Stay tuned for possibly more heroes to come in our Viking Vet Staff in Action Figure Series! 🛡️🐾💥

First up in our collectible lineup:

Dr. Dan Richardson – The Bone Fixer

Straight outta rural Nevada, Dr. Richardson is our orthopedic powerhouse. After graduating from the University of Idaho (2005) and Oregon State Vet School (2009), he spent years mastering general medicine before launching his own mobile surgery biz in 2020. Now, he’s co-founder of Viking Vet — tackling TPLOs, fracture repairs, and orthopedic magic like a pro.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Dan’s rocking life with a newborn son, a daughter, and his wife. Together, they camp, fish, paddleboard. Bonus: they foster pets and have a soft spot for hunting and working dogs. Come fall, you’ll find him in camo, not scrubs.

This action figure includes: TPLO Power Tools, Dad Mode Activated, Fishing Pole and Mobile Navigator as he travels to all our VVH locations.

Collect 'em all — this one's a limited edition. 🛠️🐶👶

📚 Friday Education Post: Pecans & Pets – What You Need to Know! 🐾

Did you know? Pecans are NOT safe for pets. Here’s why:

🔸 Toxic Compounds
Pecans contain juglone, a toxin also found in black walnuts that can be harmful to dogs, cats, and even horses.

🔸 Mold Risk
These nuts are prone to mold, which can produce aflatoxins—toxins that damage the liver and can make your pet seriously ill.

🔸 Too Fatty
High-fat foods like pecans can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, or even pancreatitis, especially in dogs.

🔸 Choking Hazard
Small pets can easily choke on whole nuts or suffer blockages. Not worth the risk!

💡 Bottom Line: Pecans may be tasty for humans, but they’re bad news for pets. Keep them away from curious paws and snouts this weekend!

📞 If your pet gets into any pecans, give us a call right away at 28-546-979—your Viking Vet team is here to help.

Today’s Educational Success Story is brought to you by… Louis! 🐾
Louis is a 10-year-old warrior who faced down a scary diagnosis—IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia)—and came out on top.

🩸 What’s IMHA?
IMHA is a disease where your pet’s immune system attacks their own red blood cells, leading to anemia (low red cell count = less oxygen = big problem).

It can be triggered by infections, medications, vaccines—or happen for no clear reason at all.

💊 How’s it treated?
We suppress the immune system using steroids and other meds, prevent blood clots, and protect the stomach from side effects. Many pets also need blood transfusions early on to stabilize.

📈 Do pets recover?
Yes—about 80% of dogs go into remission with treatment. It’s not always easy or cheap, but many dogs bounce back and live full lives. Louis is proof of that.

👩‍⚕️ Bottom line: If your pet is diagnosed with IMHA, it’s a fight worth fighting. It’s tough, but many pets do recover and go on to live happy, healthy lives. ❤️

Here is Louis's moms review of Viking Veterinary Hospital - Nampa

"I had never had an occasion to use an emergency vet before. Well the time came when my dog was extremely lethargic and vomiting and my vet was not yet open. When we got there, a tech came out immediately to triage him and upon finding very pale gums took him back immediately. He was diagnosed with acute hemolytic anemia and needed immediate attention. He had to stay for 3 days until his condition stabilized and they not only took amazing care of him but loved on him, too! The front desk staff was so friendly and the vet techs were amazing! And I dealt with 3 different vets over the course of the 3 days and they ALL were so knowledgeable, compassionate and caring. They took so much explaining the condition, the treatment and the prognosis to make sure we understood. You never want to have to go to an emergency vet, but if you do, this is a great one!"
