Wind speeds are reaching dangerous levels. This gust of 56 miles per hour was recorded a few minutes ago at the ZOO Studio on 31st Avenue in Southwest Minot. And in between gusts, it is blowing at around 35 mph.

We have reports that visibility in the Max area is 1/8 of a mile or less.

If you don't have to go anywhere, best to stay put. If you must drive, the Ward County Sheriff's Office asks that you turn on your headlights.

💥Please use your headlights when on the road today, especially on the highways. Visibility is greatly compromised due to the dust storm.

It's NASTY out there! Please drive carefully.

Hold onto your hat and keep the dog inside, it is downright miserable out there! Our weather station at our studio on 31st Avenue says winds are currently blowing at 34 miles per hour with a peak gust of 39, but we think it is lying to us. It feels way worse than that, doesn't it?

J. Davis reports a semi hauling sheetrock encountered trouble south of Washburn and half the load blew into the ditch.

There are a lot of warnings and advisories stemming from the high winds that are blowing through our area right now. It isn't just us. All of central and western North Dakota is suffering through this blasted wind.

Visibility in Minot is decreasing considerably due to a massive cloud of dust.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected today through
Friday over western and central North Dakota. West winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 65 mph are expected over northwest North Dakota, with westerly winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 55 mph over remaining areas. Relative humidity values will drop as low as 15 percent. Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control, so exercise extreme caution and be aware of the high potential for wildfires.

Stay safe out there. Or better yet, just stay in and keep listening to The ZOO!

Oh the Minot rumor mill is hard at work! We’ve been told that rumors are swirling that Hometown Radio Group has sold our three stations.

Wait.....what????⁉️ That sure was a surprise to us!

Well, we are here to tell you that nothing could be further from the truth.

We are still proudly the Hometown Radio Group, the ONLY locally owned radio stations in the community -102-9 WGO, 94-9 The ZOO, and SUNNY 101.9.

✅We are still owned by local Minot residents J. Davis and Jean Schempp (they still live and work here right alongside the rest of our staff)
✅ We still have our studios on 31st Avenue (just look for the Radio Wrangler – she still runs like a top)
✅ We still have local announcers and local staff driving to work on the same streets (and enduring the same roadblocks) as you do
✅ We are still right here in the community enjoying (or sometimes suffering) the same weather as you do
✅ We are still here to entertain you and inform you about your community
✅ We are still here to provide the absolute best service to our valued advertisers
✅ And because we are the only locally owned radio stations, (actually the locally owned mainstream media including radio, newspaper, and TV) our dollars stay local and are re-invested into our community

We have proudly lived in and served our community for more than 20 years, and we aren’t going anywhere. In fact, hold our beer, because we’re just getting started!
