“Navigating Life Together: Gus’s Beautiful Journey”

A couple years ago a friend shared on Facebook a post pleading for an adopter for an older, blind and deaf dog named Hawking. We had recently lost our 14-year-old Great Pyrenees, and our hearts were still heavy. We were in no way looking to rescue another dog yet. But for some reason, I couldn’t get this dog out of my mind. A week after seeing the post, I told my husband I had to check on him. In my mind, no one else would adopt a senior, blind, and deaf dog if we didn’t. His first comment was that we didn’t know anything about blind OR deaf dogs, but he quickly came to the conclusion we would just figure it out! And we did.

Hawking, or as he would come to be called, Gus, was still available. LRGR brought him to our home and the connection was immediate! We figured out navigating stairs and it wasn’t long before he was navigating our house like he’d lived here all his life. The challenges were there, but the rewards FAR OUTWEIGHED them.

His nose rivaled any bloodhound. He could find me anywhere! I could be cooking and he would slip up behind me and just lean against my legs. He would find me in the backyard swing, and his favorite spot was snoozing beside me on the couch. While it was clear that Gus needed us, we realized that Gus filled a hole in our lives and we needed him too!

We had him almost 2 years before he died, but we wouldn’t trade those two years for anything! Gus made such a wonderful impact on our whole family, he taught us a lot about love and overcoming challenges, and he will always hold a special place in my heart.

I would encourage everyone to look past the challenges and welcome the love and happiness that awaits.

His story proves that when we open our hearts, we find the most extraordinary connections.

Hi… I’m Raven 🖤 and I’ve got a lot of love (and a little bit of zoom) packed into my 35-pound body.

I’m about a year old, and I wake up every day ready to go — whether that means a walk, a game of tug, or just following you around to “help” with whatever you’re doing. I’m super smart and already know a bunch of things like sit, down, wait, and even shake (I mean… I am impressive). Snacks help, but honestly, I just really want to make you happy.

I LOVE other dogs and really hope I have a playful buddy in my forever home. I like to wrestle, run, and play hard, and having a confident dog friend helps me feel even braver. I’ve lived with cats before and seem pretty tolerant, but I haven’t had much personal experience lately.

I’ve got a fun, athletic side too — I can jump really high and I’m FAST. Like… blink and I’m across the yard fast. Because of that, I’ll need a secure fence (I hear 6 feet is perfect 😉). I also love walks, toys, and anything that lets me burn off my energy. After all that? I’m the BEST snuggler. I will absolutely curl up right next to you (or on you… hope that’s okay).

My dream home? An active family who will include me in their life, help me keep learning, and give me lots of love (and maybe a few treats… or a lot). Bonus points if I get a dog sibling to play with!

If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, slightly goofy, and very loving best friend… I think we might be perfect for each other.

Love,
Raven

🐾Meet Blakey!!🐾

At a glance:

• 7 years old | 73 lbs | medium energy| Spayed

• Dog friendly: Yes

• Cat friendly: No — must be cat free

• Kids: Best with kids 8+

• Home needs: Fenced yard preferred, active family, not ideal for apartment living due to vocal barking and love of outdoor space

Blakey is the kind of dog people spend years hoping to find — easygoing, affectionate, beautifully mannered, and ready to fit seamlessly into family life. At 7 years old, this gorgeous black Lab mix has fully mastered the art of being the perfect companion: calm in the house, playful in the yard, wonderful in the car, trustworthy with free roam of the home, and happiest simply hanging out with her people. She’s the type of dog who curls up nearby while you go about your day, then lights up with goofy excitement the second it’s time to head outside.

Blakey already knows her manners, walks politely on leash, rides like a pro in the car, and has proven herself to be friendly with other dogs and respectful with people of all ages. She’s affectionate without being demanding and adapts beautifully to the energy of the home around her. Her only “watch outs”? She absolutely cannot live with cats — she will chase them — and her bark is impressively loud when she spots something exciting outside. Otherwise, she’s the total package.

Meet Fetcher – The Ball Is Life Lab

Fetcher is a handsome chocolate Lab, estimated to be between 3–6 years old, weighing about 75 pounds. This sweet boy has a calm, affectionate nature indoors but comes alive the moment he gets outside—especially if a ball is involved.

Fetcher is the type of dog who loves being close to his people. Around the house he’s relaxed, content to follow you from room to room, settle nearby, or curl up for some quiet companionship. He’s affectionate, eager to please, and enjoys simply being part of the household routine.

Outside is where Fetcher’s playful side really shines. His absolute favorite thing in the world is his ball—and when it appears, he’s all in! Toss it once and you’ll quickly see how focused and enthusiastic he can be. Fetcher loves a good game of fetch and will happily chase his ball again and again. Because he gets so excited during playtime, he’s currently learning that calm behavior gets the ball thrown, which helps him manage his excitement.

Overall, Fetcher is a friendly, affectionate, slightly goofy Lab who loves his people and thrives with structure and activity. With the right balance of exercise, leadership, and plenty of fetch sessions, he will make an incredibly loyal and fun companion.

Fetcher at a Glance

• Chocolate Lab | 75 lbs | Estimated 3–6 years old

• Dog friendly | Cat compatibility unknown

• Kids 8+ recommended

• Medium energy – calm indoors, playful outside

• LOVES fetch and his Chuckit ball

• Smart, food motivated, and eager to learn

• Needs continued leash training

• Would do best with a fenced yard

Fetcher is looking for an active family that will include him in daily life, provide guidance and structure, and of course… keep the ball game going. With his affectionate personality and playful spirit, he’s ready to become someone’s very loyal best friend.
