šŸŽ‰ Celebrating Lola’s 10 Years Home 🐶

Lola has spent ten beautiful years in her forever home. It’s a milestone that fills us with gratitude- for her family, for her journey, and for the reminder of what rescue truly means.

And on 12/10, we’re asking you to help us celebrate her milestone in the simplest way- with a $10 gift. Ten years of love, symbolized by ten dollars that help us continue this work.

As we head into the final three weeks of 2025, we’ve made it a little over one-third of the way to our year-end goal. Your support is what allows us to keep showing up. If Lola’s 10-year milestone touches your heart, a $10 donation in her honor helps us reach more dogs hoping for their own happy ending.

🐾MIDNIGHT (MIDDIE) – YOUR SNUGGLY, KID-LOVING BEST FRIEND🐾

Hi! I’m Midnight, but everyone calls me Middie. I’m a 1-year-old happy, wiggly girl who absolutely LOVES kids. I’ve spent time with children from ages 3–18, and I’m gentle, affectionate, and always excited to be part of their world. I give sweet kisses, lean in for pets, and soak up every bit of attention.

Snuggles are my favorite—I love curling up at your feet, leaning against you, or snoozing right in your lap. I enjoy walks, exploring the yard, and sniffing everything around me, and then I settle in beautifully. I get along well with other dogs (though I can be a little pushy when excited), but cats are a no-go because I think they’re for chasing.

On walks, I’m learning that when I see other dogs, I can stay calm and look to my foster mom for treats instead of getting worked up. I’m smart and very food motivated, so I’m improving every day.

I’m playful, affectionate, curious, and full of goofy charm. If you’re looking for a loving companion who is great with kids, enjoys fun adventures, and lives for snuggles, I might be the perfect match for your family.

🐾Meet Kodi – Your Big-Hearted Adventure Buddy!🐾

Kodi is an 8-year-old Labrador with a gorgeous light ā€œalmost whiteā€ coat and an even brighter personality. He may be a senior on paper, but don’t let that fool you—this boy still has plenty of energy, enthusiasm, and love to give.

Kodi is a friendly, social, people-loving Lab who wants nothing more than to be part of the action. He greets new friends with a wagging tail and a big smile (and yes, sometimes a big jump—he’s working on that!). Once he settles, he’s a loyal shadow who enjoys curling up at your feet and soaking in all the affection he can get.

Great With Kids

Kodi currently lives with very young children and is absolutely wonderful with them. He is gentle, patient, and incredibly tolerant—happy to lay in the playroom or relax under the highchair waiting for ā€œsnacksā€ to drop.

Active & Energetic

Kodi needs a home that can give him the exercise and engagement he’s been missing. He loves to explore, go for walks, and would thrive with a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs. He’s a strong boy on leash—especially when he sees another dog—so continued training and structure will help him shine.

Must Knows!

• 8 Years old, 80 lbs

• Very food-motivated (training gold!)

• Sensitive skin—takes a daily allergy med

• Approved for kids of all ages

• Dog Friendly

• Cats Unknown

If you’re looking for a social, goofy, affectionate Lab who will adore you endlessly—Kodi is your guy.

Meant to Be Ours: Eloise’s Journey
Shared by the foster family who became her forever family.

"Eloise came to us as a foster, and the moment we saw her curled up in the back of the car, we knew she was special. She was tiny for a lab, underweight, scared, and covered in little scars. She would not even get out of the car at first. We jokingly called her ā€œPancakeā€ because anytime she got nervous, she would flatten herself right to the ground.

She was afraid of everything: loud noises, cars, even steps. It became clear she had not lived inside much before. A warm bed and a cozy couch were overwhelming instead of comforting. She did not know any commands, not even sit, and trusting people was hard for her.

But slowly, she opened up. That is when her big personality came out. Now she is a step-master and a total car ride lover. She has gained a healthy 10 pounds, learned sit, stay, and heel, and loves with her whole heart. She wants to be friends with every human and dog she meets.

She has hiked in Shenandoah, learned to swim at the beach, made new friends in Ohio, earned her Bark Ranger badge, and she sleeps under the covers on my shoulder every night. She follows me and Odin everywhere, making us laugh and filling our home with joy.

Her scars have healed, her confidence has bloomed, and the fear is gone. She knows she is safe. She knows she belongs.

We might be a foster fail, but Eloise was meant to be ours. We are so grateful for the organization that brought her to us, and we cannot wait to continue fostering once my husband is home from deployment."

If Eloise’s story touched your heart, your generosity helps us be there for the next one.

Update: Fosters found

We’re reaching out with a holiday wish. Two wonderful shelter dogs with great temperament test videos need foster homes, and we currently have no available fosters to help them.

Sugar is an 8-year-old spayed female. She is as sweet as her name. She’s calm, gentle, and low to medium energy. She just wants a soft place to land.

Mossy is 2 years old. She will be spayed by us once she is in foster care. She is a happy, wiggly girl who gets excited at first but settles well once she has her zoomies out. She is eager to bond and learn.

Both dogs deserve a warm home for the holidays, and we would love nothing more than to give them that chance. If you have ever considered fostering, now is the perfect time to make a life-changing difference.

Please reach out if you can open your home to Sugar or Mossy. Their future depends on someone saying yes.

Skippy: From Abandoned to Forever Home

April 5, 2025 was a cold day, especially for the little Labrador boy lying huddled and alone under a bush in Gosnold Park, Hampton, VA. When Animal Control arrived, we can’t know if he, a starving boy with all ribs showing, went willingly for the next leg of his journey — Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) — but go, he did.

Once at PRAS, Little Boy tried to make friends. Indeed, he earned the name ā€œOliver Twist,ā€ as he would rise, gently lifting his front paws to lay his head quietly against the keeper’s chest, in a pleading gesture.

Amy, PRAS Operations Superintendent, recognized his potential and contacted Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond (LRGR) for an evaluation. LRGR lept to action.

Rebecca, an LRGR Owner Surrender Coordinator, lives just a few miles from PRAS, and so went down quickly. Little Boy was scared, with tail between legs, but he was friendly and welcoming, a good boy.

Could LRGR bring in Little Boy? Short answer, yes. And while she hadn’t planned to, Rebecca brought Little Boy home with her to foster that very day.

What a difference an afternoon makes! In the photo collage, the top image is Little Boy in the shelter, all hunkered down and scared. On the bottom is Little Boy, proud and comfortable in his first afternoon with Rebecca and his soon to be big sister, Delta Dog.

Once out of the shelter, his s***k emerged and he sported a happy, curly tail. Rebecca named him Mr. Skippy. Mr. Skippy Scamp. And he blossomed, sharing all with new sister. Yes, it was a foster fail as Rebecca and Delta welcomed Skippy to his forever home.

He’s got his own spot on the sofa, and brings his Signature Peep to our days.

And Skippy’s got his own leaf pile in our yard, a happy haven.

From scared stiff in a shelter, to joy in the leaves — images of the transformation that Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond can bring in a pup’s life. LRGR, thank you for the gifts of life and love, thank you!

Grits – A Gentle Giant Looking for a Soft Place to Land

Hi, I’m Grits! I’m a 10-year-old gentle giant with a calm, easygoing vibe. I love nothing more than hanging out with my humans — whether I’m sunbathing in the yard or stretched out at your feet while you relax on the couch. Being close to you is my favorite place to be.

I get along great with other dogs and even cats. I’m a mellow guy, but I do enjoy a short, friendly game of chase with the other dogs — and I’ll admit, I like to chase a squirrel now and then, just for fun!

I move around pretty well for a senior! I can handle the five steps at my foster home with no problem, though a full flight of stairs would be tougher for me. I can still get up on the bed for snuggles — and trust me, I never turn those down.

My favorite things are simple: belly rubs, treats, soft places to nap, and being near the people I love. If you’re looking for a loyal, laid-back companion who will always be by your side, I’d love to be your new best friend.

Must Knows!

• Dog Friedly

• Cats unknown (he does have a prey drive )

• Low energy

• Has some arthritis in back legs

• Gentle, calm personality

• Kids 8+

• Wonderful companion

Teddy: From Weathered to Wonderful

Teddy’s foster family has walked with him every step of the way, and we’re so grateful for the care and patience they’ve poured into his healing. What follows is his story, written by the people who know him best.

ā€œI imagine life started out hard for Teddy. Estimated to be 2–3 years old, he was found roaming the streets on September 29 and brought to the local shelter. He spent the next month there before LRGR stepped in and brought him into foster care. It’s likely Teddy ran as a stray for a long time, because his appearance was so weathered and he arrived with a host of medical needs. He was emaciated, battling worms, and had dry, flaky skin with a dull, patchy coat. His ears were infected, he had a hernia that needed to be repaired, and his eyes watered with discomfort at every blink. He was shy, timid, and clearly had been through some hard things.

After a month in foster care, he has blossomed into a nap-loving, sweet boy who is learning what love is. With medication to clear the infections, surgery to repair his hernia, and entropion surgery on both eyes, he is finally on his way to being healthy. He’s gaining weight, his skin is healing, and his coat is becoming shiny and soft.

It’s likely Teddy never knew what love was or how to be a house dog. Under the guidance of his foster brother, he’s learned the joy of a chew bone, a warm bed, and a yard to run zoomies in. At the end of the day, his favorite spot is curled up on top of his humans, soaking up all the affection he can. Teddy is the perfect example of how a hard start can be overcome with a little TLC and a lot of love.ā€

Dogs like Teddy come to us worn down, hoping the world still has kindness in it. When you give toward our $20,000 year-end goal, you become the reason another dog gets that chance to heal.
