We wanted to take a second to explain adiption fees:
Do some dogs come to us already neutered and fully vaccinated? SOMETIMES🙄RARELY
Do some puppies come to us at 6 months old never having had a single vaccine, dewormer, and still intact? Of course!
We invest FAR more than our adoption fees into those puppies to get them ready for adoption:
- 3 rounds of DHPP
- Rabies
- Bordatella
- Microchip
- Flea/tick/heartworm prevention monthly
- Dewormer upon intake and often 2 or 3 more times after that
- Spay/neuter surgery (smaller dogs cost less than 50lb+ dogs)
- Quality food, toys, treats, cleaning supplies etc
That is just the basic care but we often have dogs/pups who have additional medical needs (allergy medication, emergency room visits in the middle of the night, unexpected exams for swollen eyelids or ear infections, etc). We do not break even on dogs who require more than the basic medical requirements. The fee charged for a dog who came to us neutered and vaccinated helps to bridge the gap on our more medically demanding animals!
Why else do we charge a fee?
I promise you, we aren’t getting rich “flipping” or “selling” dogs… we just want to ensure the adopters can actually afford to properly care for their new pet 🐾 We know that everyone wants a pet to love on, but our ONLY concern is the best interest for the animals! If you’d like to love on some dogs or cats but can’t afford to adopt, please come volunteer or consider fostering! They would all love some extra attention ♥️
Lastly, we want to ensure that we are still in operation and able to help animals 5 years from now! We have to be able to stay on top of the bills in order to continue rescuing!
As always, thank you to every person who has ever donated, volunteered, fostered, adopted, shared a post, or left us a nice comment ♥️
