Confessions of a dog trainer:
If you think I’m a patient person, you’ve never seen me work with a dog who’s absolutely convinced “sit” means “stare at you like you’ve lost your mind.” 😂
Dog training will test your patience in ways you didn’t even know were possible. It’s not some magical gift I was born with—it’s a choice I have to make, again and again (and sometimes again) every single day.
The wild part? Every time I choose patience with a stubborn pup, it gets a little easier to choose it with myself, my clients, and just… life in general. Sure, I still lose my cool sometimes (who doesn’t?), but I’m proud my patience muscles are stronger than they used to be.
Who or what is testing your patience this week? Tell me I’m not the only one giving deep sighs and pep talks to myself (and my dogs) on repeat!

Training with your dog in new environments becomes critical when wanting good behavior everywhere you go! The amount, timing of, type and delivery of stimulation all are variables that play a huge factor in your success! The more you use it, the better that muscle is! Even small factors like changing the route of your usual work pattern may be just enough for dogs to get some practice on!

Changing up your environment is a good thing... but don't forget to change your expectations. The more stimulation... the lower the expectation for "good behavior right away". See what needs to be worked on, work it and end successfully instead of being frustrated that your dog wasn't perfect at the get go!
