‼️ Giving Credit ‼️
We just want to take a minute to discuss an important aspect of the rabbit breeding hobby.
It is important to always give credit where credit due to original breeders. That could be something as simple as using their given prefix and pedigree name, to a direct breeder name shout out when posting animals on social media.
Breeders put a lot of time and effort into breeding animals and often times blood, sweat and tears into producing their lines and offspring. Breeders also often take great pride in the knowledge that others can benefit from their programs.
We recently acquired a whole herd of harlequins from a good friend of ours and in our haste and excitement to share the promising babies we are growing out from them we failed to give full credit and in turn gave the improper impression that the babies were produced here at Smokin Roses by just using their given barn names without specifying where they came from. A mistake on our end that we rectified quickly. I am personally thankful for being called out on it because it was an important lesson and reminder for all of us to always GIVE CREDIT TO ORIGINAL BREEDERS.
If you ever see an animal you produced not being properly identified or misrepresented in anyway please message and call the person out privately and let your feelings be known. Simple mistakes happen and a quick conversation can be an important reminder, lesson, or learning curve.
We personally made an error, we were called out on it, and we are thankful for it. We personally rather own up to our mistakes publicly and share our experiences so that others do not make the same mistakes - accidentally or intentionally.
