Big day for Indy, Chance, and Raven!

This morning, they’re getting their “glamour shots” with photographer Kim, and we can’t wait to see their beautiful faces shine!

Indy (pictured above) and Chance will both be available for adoption soon — Chance after he finishes his heartworm treatment, and Indy once she’s cleared at her next vet appointment. Indy came to us as a neglect case and has spent the past few months healing, gaining weight, and growing her gorgeous coat back!

Alfie Update!

Our sweet AGSDR alum Alfie is showing us what true strength looks like! He’s been bravely undergoing chemotherapy, and we’re thrilled to share that his latest lab results are great—his cancer is currently under control!

This tough boy has faced every challenge with courage and tail wags, and today we celebrate a HUGE win in his fight. Keep sending your love and good vibes—Alfie feels it all, and it’s working!

Sweet Ms. Zina (now Bella!) is getting spayed this morning — the final step in her incredible journey of healing and hope.

Bella came into our care on May 4 of last year, very pregnant and heartworm positive. She bravely brought her babies into the world, showered them with love, and watched them all go off to wonderful adoptive homes.

After her pups were weaned, Bella focused on herself — gaining weight, building strength, and eventually starting heartworm treatment in the fall. She completed it like a champ, and after patiently waiting the recommended 6 months post-treatment… today’s the big day!

This morning, she gets spayed and then heads off to her forever home, where her amazing new mom is ready to give her all the love she so deserves.

We are so proud of you, Bella. You did it. ♥️

Flute is on fire 🔥 with her training lately—this girl is seriously smart! She’s picking up new commands faster than we ever expected. She recently met with her trainer and totally crushed it: she mastered a two-minute “leave it,” held a two-minute sit like a champ, and even learned “down” like it was no big deal. 🎉

We weren’t totally sure how much brainpower this sweet girl had until training started… and wow, were we wrong. Flute is clever, eager to learn, and absolutely loves being told she’s a good girl (which, let’s be honest, she hears a lot these days). 🤗

At 7 years young, Krissy has the perfect blend of energy and chill. She’s always up for a little adventure—whether it’s a car ride or playtime with her canine foster sisters—but she also knows how to settle in for a cozy evening at your side.

This gorgeous girl is sweet, social, and full of love. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home and has wonderful house manners. The only “extra” she needs is daily eye drops, which she takes like a champ. Otherwise? She’s healthy, happy, and so ready to find her forever family.

Our sweet Zina has officially found her forever! Now named Bella, this beautiful girl met her new momma Kari… and it was love at first sight.

Kari lost her heart dog, her soul shepherd, a few years ago. That kind of love leaves a space nothing else can fill — until the right dog comes along. When Kari was ready to open her heart again, she applied to adopt through AGSDR… and the moment she met Zina, they just knew.

The bond was instant, deep, and undeniable — a perfect match. Now Bella is off to start her new chapter with Kari by her side, where she’ll be cherished, adored, and finally home.

Wishing Bella and Kari a lifetime of love, adventure, and healing. These are the stories that keep us going.

We may be a little biased, but we think Mr. April deserves to stay up all year long—because we seriously can’t get enough of Rommel’s handsome face!

This stunning boy has passed away, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone who met him—and now, on kitchen walls, office desks, and rescue-loving homes all over Texas. ♥️

If you’ve been flipping calendar pages with our pups this year, we hope each month has made you smile as much as Rommel made his family smile every day. And if you missed out… don’t worry.

Five years. That’s how long our sweet Luna has been waiting for a place to truly call home.

Five years ago, Luna, her two siblings, and their mama were found abandoned on a grandfather’s land in Del Valle. The grandfather’s family noticed the tiny pups and, despite being unprepared, began doing what they could to care for them. It quickly became clear that these puppies had been born in the wild—they were feral, frightened, and unsure of humans.

Thankfully, they reached out to AGSDR, and we were able to bring all four into our care. Their mama was spayed, rehabilitated, and found a loving home in no time. Luna’s siblings—though also shy—slowly opened up and were both adopted into wonderful families.

But Luna’s journey… it was different.

She was deeply shut down. She wouldn’t eat around people, preferred to be alone, and avoided both humans and other dogs. Her fear was raw, and her walls were high.

Then came Jennifer.

Jenn applied to foster that same year, and Luna was her very first foster. With incredible patience and compassion, Jenn never pushed Luna—she simply let her be. And slowly, gently, Luna started to bloom. Jenn adopted another shepherd, Patsy, and to everyone’s delight, Luna and Patsy became best friends. Hikes, runs, and little joys followed. Luna found comfort in a rhythm of love, trust, and understanding.

Over the years, Luna had a few potential adopters—but her timid heart often left her overlooked.

Until now.

Five years later, Jennifer has made it official. Luna is HOME.

We could not be more overjoyed. Jenn, your unwavering devotion, your patience, and your nurturing spirit have been everything Luna needed to feel safe and loved.

Cheers to the end of a foster chapter and the beginning of forever. ♥️

🐾 Flute’s Big Day! 🐾

After spending over 5 months in a shelter, Flute has been working hard to adjust to life outside. It hasn’t been easy—she’s taken steps forward and a few steps back—but today, we’re celebrating a HUGE milestone! 🎉

For the first time, Flute spent a half day at doggie daycare, and instead of feeling overwhelmed or trying to escape, she warmed up and played with other doggies! 🐶✨ This is a huge step for her confidence, and we are so proud!

With the help of a trainer and continued daycare visits, Flute is learning that the world isn’t so scary after all. She’s gaining the social skills and courage she needs to thrive in her future forever home. 💛
