May is Foster Care Awareness Month for Pets 🐾💙

Every day, foster families open their hearts and homes to animals in need — giving scared, abandoned, and recovering pets a safe place to heal, grow, and feel loved.

Fostering saves lives. It creates space in shelters, helps pets adjust to home life, and gives them a better chance at finding their forever families.

One common misconception we often hear from clients within the veterinary world is that indoor pets don't require routine veterinary care, as they aren't directly exposed to the outdoors; however, staying inside doesn't guarantee immunity to parasites and health risks.

Fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites can be carried inside through other pets or items brought into the home, including humans' clothing, and all pets can develop dental disease, obesity, and/or health conditions that come with aging. Bringing your pet in for a regular exam and keeping them up to date on vaccines is a simple way to help protect them against serious, infectious diseases and also helps to catch health issues early, saving you stress and money in the long-run.

Calling all dog lovers! Please join us for the 13th annual PuppyUp Madison Companions Against Cancer walk! Once again we will come together for a few short hours for one common goal… to fight cancer in people and pets!

Why do we recommend Gabapentin and Trazodone for pets that are more apprehensive about the vet?
We at Precision Vet like to provide services in a way that is as low-stress and fear-free for our patients as possible. Stress and anxiety leads to your pet having a negative association with the vet which simply makes it harder on everyone when it's time for a checkup. Gabapentin and Trazodone (Gaba/Traz) are typically the medications we try for anxiety relief related to veterinary visits in pets, and we've found that the two medications work best when given together. Not only do anti-anxiety medications make our job providing veterinary services for your pet easier, it's also beneficial for easing their stress which can have lasting effects on their health. Animals don't understand why we're poking and prodding them, so going to the doctor can be even more dreadful for them than it is for us!

It's World Spay Day!🐾🌏
We here at Precision Vet strongly advocate to spay or neuter your pet as early as you're comfortable with, given they're healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. Spay/neuter helps reduce the number of pets sitting in shelters which is something we're very passionate about, as we work with multiple rescues every day.
