❤️🩹 Esmeralda Update!❤️🩹
After consulting with multiple veterinarians, we knew surgery came with significant risks, as the mass involved her entire mammary chain and had an extensive blood supply. Her enlarged lymph nodes, elevated white blood cell count, and questionable chest X-rays also raised concerns about possible underlying disease, including malignancy. Initially, the plan was to collect a biopsy and wait for results before considering surgery. Removing only part of a malignant mass could potentially lead to poor healing, tissue necrosis, and additional complications. Also waiting another 1–2 weeks meant leaving Esmeralda struggling to carry around this enormous mass, with the risk of it ulcerating again. After further discussion with her vet, we felt she was stable enough to proceed, and we decided the potential improvement in her quality of life was worth the risk, plus Esmeralda has a will to live and isn't ready to give up just yet!
So Esmeralda underwent a 4-hour surgery yesterday to remove the massive mammary tumor she had been carrying around. The mass weighed almost 14 POUNDS! We are so grateful to the amazing Dr. Sabshin at Harmony Vet Care for not only squeezing Esmeralda into her schedule but also doing an incredible job with such a tough surgery! Our girl is already feeling so much better and we cant wait to share videos with you all - so stay tuned!
