🐾 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘀’ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆: 𝗔 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗔 𝗟𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲! 🐾💙

It’s been almost two weeks since Silas joined our rescue, and we wanted to share an update on how this sweet boy is doing! ❤️

First things first… have you seen this handsome guy in his new sweater and pajamas?! 😍🐾 Silas is getting some extra comfort and plenty of love while he settles into rescue life.

But while he’s looking pretty adorable in his new outfits, we’re also working hard behind the scenes to get him healthy!

When Silas first came to us, he was estimated to be 30–40 pounds underweight and had several medical needs that required attention. We knew he had a long road ahead of him, but we’re happy to report that he’s already making progress!

💙 𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄?

🐾 𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻! Silas has gained a few pounds, which is encouraging progress! He still has a long way to go, and we’ll be helping him gain weight slowly and safely over the next several weeks.

💉 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆! He has received his vaccines, although he’ll need a few boosters in a couple of weeks.

🩺 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Silas tested negative for heartworms, which is great news! However, he tested positive for hookworms and roundworms and is being treated with a dewormer to get those pesky parasites under control.

❤️‍🩹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹! Silas is still dealing with a painful happy tail, and we’re working hard to get it to heal. We’re doing our best to help him recover and keep him comfortable along the way.

🏥 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽! 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘅𝘆. We’re also looking into possibly removing two fatty lumps on his stomach while he’s under anesthesia.

There’s still work to do, but every pound gained, every step toward healing and every cozy moment in his new pajamas is a reminder of why rescue matters. Silas is getting the care, comfort and love he deserves, and we can’t wait to see him continue to thrive! 💙

❤️ 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀?

Silas still has veterinary care, surgery, treatment and recovery expenses ahead of him. If you’d like to be part of his journey, any donation toward his fundraiser helps us continue providing the care he needs.

🐾 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘀!🐾

We're excited to introduce our newest boy, Silas!

At 4 years and 9 months old, Silas recently came into rescue needing some extra care and a fresh start. He's estimated to be 30-40 pounds underweight and is dealing with skin issues, a painful happy tail and a few other medical needs that we will be addressing in the coming weeks.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀? Silas doesn't seem to know he has had a rough start. He is a sweet, loving boy who enjoys being around people, is doing well with other animals and has quickly settled into his Louisville foster home. He's still learning some basic manners, but his foster family says he's eager to please and soaking up all the love and attention.

To help get Silas healthy and ready for his forever home, he'll need veterinary care, vaccinations, heartworm and parasite testing, neuter and gastropexy surgery, quality food and supplements and a few extra comforts while he gains weight and heals.

𝗪𝗲'𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 $𝟮,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀. We would love for you to follow along as we help this sweet boy get the second chance he deserves.

We are currently 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙡𝙤𝙬 on available foster homes, and we can’t help more Great Danes without your help! 💔

Kentucky Great Dane Rescue does not have a facility — every dog we take in goes directly into a loving foster home until they find their forever family. Fosters are absolutely the heart of what we do.

𝗪𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲:
✅ All vet care (through our approved vets)
✅ Supplies for the dog
✅ Support throughout the foster process

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲:
• A safe, loving temporary home
• Help getting the dog to vet visits & meet and greets with approved adopters
• Compassion and care for a Dane in need
• Train the foster dog if needed (crate training, potty training, walking on a leash, etc.)

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻:
• Kentucky
• Southern Indiana
• OR Ohio (near Cincinnati or Dayton)

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴?
➡️ Fill out our foster application here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/KGDR/Dog
➡️ Once the foster application is approved, we will walk you through the process and match you with a dog that fits your household — whether you have kids, other dogs, or specific needs.

🚨𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗬 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗪𝗔𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚?!🚨

Seriously… Maverick is over 100 pounds of goofy, loyal, smart, affectionate GOOD BOY and somehow, 𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻. 💔

Just look at that face. 🥹❤️

Maverick is the kind of dog who wants to be right there with his people, involved in whatever you're doing. He LOVES his humans, loves having a job to do and absolutely shines when he's learning something new.

And there’s even more good news…

🎉 𝗠𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞’𝗦 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗘𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗗! 🎉

𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹?
🐾 Housebroken
🐾 Crate trained
🐾 Incredibly smart
🐾 VERY food motivated
🐾 Athletic & adventurous
🐾 A total training superstar
🐾 Loyal and deeply devoted to his people
🐾 Ready to be someone's best friend

Maverick isn't looking for just any home. 𝗛𝗲'𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. ❤️

🐾 Adults-only home
🐾 Calm, structured environment
🐾 Fenced yard or an invisible fence
🐾 Experienced large-breed owner
🐾 Ideally, he'd be your one-and-only dog
🐾 He does okay with cats
🐾 No poultry or other small animals due to his high prey drive

He thrives with structure, routine, boundaries and people who enjoy working with their dog. Give Maverick consistency, a little direction, someone to love and he is happiest being right by your side. ❤️

He's up-to-date on vaccines, negative for parasites and heartworms, neutered and has had a gastropexy.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀!

Because his person may be sitting on your friends list right now, and they just haven't met Maverick yet. 🥹
