Veterinary Technicians like Kelli and Amy who have been with Catoctin Veterinary Clinic since the early 90’s, have seen it all. 💚

“Being an LVT for 33 years is a level of resiliency that not many have,” said Paige Blumer, Hospital Manager. “Kelli and Amy are the backbone of this practice. They are both very near and dear to every client’s heart.”

This year’s celebration focuses on the resiliency of Vet Techs, and we’re proud to highlight the hardworking, compassionate, and RESILIENT veterinary technicians at Catoctin Veterinary Clinic.

Our very own Wendy McKenna and her Great Dane puppy, Earl, were a crowd favorite at Hillsboro Charter Academy last week! Wendy is an LVT who worked at Catoctin Veterinary Clinic for many years before becoming a full-time mom! She was invited to speak to the class as part of their ”Community Helpers” segment. Wendy shared x-rays of broken bones, teeth models and even ticks with the class educating them on animal health and the veterinary field.

Help us welcome Dr. Surman to the Catoctin Vet Clinic family! 🐾 👩‍⚕️

She is a DMV area native. She attended University of Maryland for her undergraduate degree and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine with her VMD in 2015.

She and her husband have 3 kids who are all young animal lovers. They live in a home full of pets including cats, dogs, chickens, and a bearded dragon. In her spare time, she can be found shuttling her kids to different sporting events, watching Steelers football games, relaxing on the Delaware beaches, camping with her kids, and visiting local vineyards with her husband.

Dr. Surman is looking forward to making long lasting relationships with pets and clients in her new hometown of Leesburg!

At Catoctin Veterinary Clinic the health and safety of our patients, clients, and team members has always been our top priority. We appreciate everyone’s patience through the past years as we have navigated the new environment with COVID-19. The pandemic placed a heavy toll on the veterinary industry.

A common question we have received is, “Why are you so busy?”.

We have attached a document giving insight into why the clinic is so busy and reasoning behind the ever increasing demand for veterinary care. Please be kind to the staff and your veterinarians. Everyone is working hard to keep your pet(s) happy and healthy!

We hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July Holiday on Monday! Fireworks can be frightening and dangerous to pets, here are some tips to keep your cat safe this holiday:

1. Keep your cat indoors: Even if your cat is used to being able to go outside, make sure your kitty is indoors and your windows and doors are shut before the sun goes down.

2. Maintain a safe space for your cat: If your cat has a favorite hiding place, make sure they can access it easily.

3. Distract your cat: Leaving the TV or radio on to provide ambient noise inside the house can help distract your pet from the fireworks outside. You can also use toys and treats to occupy your cat's attention during the firework celebration.
