🌞🐾 Spring Into Action with Prevention! 🐾🌞
As the sun shines brighter and the temperatures rise, it’s time to embrace the outdoors with our furry friends! 🐶 Prevention year round for our pets is optimal and recommended but with warmer weather comes the not-so-fun reality of visibly seeing parasites and bugs like fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms. 🦠
That’s where prevention comes in – and our pup is ready to strike a pose with some of the best products on the market! Check them out:
✨ NexGard – Flea & Tick Protection ✨
With summer hikes and backyard fun, fleas and ticks can quickly invade. NexGard is the perfect way to keep them at bay and help your dog enjoy the outdoors without worrying about bites or itchy, irritating infestations. It's tasty, effective, and keeps your dog protected for a full month! 🐕🌿
💖 HeartGard – Heartworm Prevention 💖
Heartworms may be invisible, but their impact on your dog’s health can be severe. HeartGard is a simple monthly chew that protects your dog from the dangers of heartworms – a life-threatening parasite. Keep your dog’s heart and lungs healthy all season long! ❤️🦟
🦠 Simparica Trio – All-in-One Protection 🦠
Why juggle multiple medications when you can have it all in one? Simparica Trio covers fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms – all in one tasty treat! It's the easiest way to keep your dog safe from a wide range of harmful parasites and ensure they’re healthy and happy for all your spring adventures. 🌸

So, as the weather warms up and fun outdoor adventures await, make sure your dog is protected from those unwanted pests. Prevention is always better than the cure, and with these trusted products, you can rest easy knowing your pup is safe, healthy, and ready for action. 🐾✨

Don't wait – start your dog's prevention routine today, and let the fun begin! 🌼🌞

Meet Ernie — our little chaos gremlin turned clinic mascot!

This handsome fluffball belongs to our amazing main coordinator, Ashley, who’s been with us for almost 3 years (coming up this summer!). Ernie’s been part of her life for 2.5 years now, ever since she adopted him from the Loudoun County Humane Society. 💙🥰

Don’t let the cat title fool you — Ernie thinks he’s a dog. He begs for food, demands cuddles, and lives for wild porch zoomies. But back in September (just a day after Ashley’s birthday, no less!), Ernie gave us a real scare. He had pale gums, no appetite, and zero energy — big yikes. Dr. Surman and Dr. Trinidad swooped in and discovered he had a massive hairball blocking his intestines — we’re talking golf ball size!⛳️ With surgery Ernie was back to his mischievous self in no time.💉🩺 Now he gets regular shave downs by our fabulous tech team to keep those hairballs at bay — and, honestly, he kind of rocks the look.🪒

Give Ernie a little love in the comments — he’s earned it! 🐾💙

Katie Pooh ready for a walk after her Librela injection! 💜💉Librela helps improve mobility in dogs with osteoarthritis as a monthly injection based off your dogs weight. Librela works by blocking nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein that plays a role in pain and inflammation.🧬 By inhibiting NGF, Librela reduces pain and improves joint function in dogs with OA. During your next visit consult with your veterinarian to see if Librela can improve your dogs daily life!🐾💙💉

Starting off the week strong with some puppy boosters! Remember when visiting to bring a fresh f***l sample to make sure your pets are staying safe! Blood work, f***l samples, and urine are lab-work that should be done routinely to check in on your pets health. Diagnostic screening tests can act as an early
warning system to uncover health issues before your dog
shows signs of illness. Comparing test results from year to year
also helps us to better understand your dog’s individual health
needs.🐾💉💙💩

‼️‼️‼️‼️Save This Life Microchips has unexpectedly shut down and unlinked its database from national registries‼️‼️‼️

Here’s what you need to know and what to do:

· If your pet’s microchip number starts with either 991 or 900164, then you have one of the Save This Life microchips.

· The microchips themselves remain safe and functional.

· However, due to the database shutdown, pet owners must take immediate action to ensure their pet's microchip information is accessible.

To prevent any issues if your pet ever goes missing, please re-register your pet’s microchip number as soon as possible at one of the following sites:

1. Free Registry Service at www.freepetchipregistry.com. This FREE registry is connected to the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool, ensuring your contact information is available when scanned.

2. PetLink at 1-877-PETLINK (738-5465) or Petlink Registration. Register Save This Life microchipped pets with petlink.net for only $9.99 using the discount code: VEDCO.

3. HomeAgain at 1-888-466-3242 or homeagain.com. Register Save This Life microchipped pets with HomeAgain for no charge when using code EnrollSTL.

Unsure of your pet’s chip number or the company they are registered with? Call, email or text our hospital to have your pet's information retrieved or to schedule an appointment for a quick scan with a Universal Reader.

Just an FYI for everyone who is concerned with their dog’s microchips that have been implanted by Catoctin Vet.
We have always used the company HomeAgain Pet Recovery for our microchips.
We have for years. They are open and operating.
The only chips that have been implanted here from outside sources have come from breeders or various rescues.
If you are in doubt, please feel free to reach out to us. You can also reach out to your pets breeder or your rescue for more information.
