Help us get the word out!! 🐦⬛ A fully feathered baby bird learning how to fly is called a fledgling! Fledgling birds spend 7-10 days on the ground learning to fly, while their parents watch from a nearby tree, swooping down to feed the baby at regular intervals on the ground. This is a normal stage of development for baby birds, and is when they are most often mistaken for injured - resulting in them being kidnapped from their parents.
Through an educational grant we were able to create these yards signs to help share this information with people who might stumble across a baby bird while out on a walk. These yard signs share our messaging on baby birds and feature a scannable QR code that links to the songbird section of our website. People can learn about native songbirds and find resources to determine if the animal they found needs help, or should be left for their parents to continue caring for them.
We would like to create a pay-it-forward system to perpetuate this program. This is how the program works - you make a $10 donation when you pick up the signage from our facility. Each spring you’ll put this sign in your yard for years to come to help educate your neighbors about fledgling birds. These donations will go into a fund that will be used next year to print another round of signs with a new educational message for our community. (We’re thinking cottontails - next year).
We have 300 signs available, at $10 each for in-person pick up from our facility! They are first come first served - and the early bird gets the worm! 🪱 🐦
