Some behind-the-scenes snapshots of our week, including the adoptions of Bindi and Madam Morrible! ✨📸

🐱 Bindi went home with Kim, who has been searching for the perfect senior cat to call her new best friend!

🐱 and Sarah took home Mori aka Madam Morrible in a foster to adopt 2 weeks ago, and last night, made it official! She even sent over some adorable pictures of Mori enjoying her new home.

A huge THANK YOU! 🌼💞🙌🏽 to the team of staff from Walmart Leavenworth that grouped together on their time off to come by the shelter to volunteer their time!

When we have volunteers that would like come as a group, we get them set up with tasks that we don’t often have the time for in our everyday. One thing we’ve been wanting to do is spruce up the front of our building to make it a little more appeasing to the eye. Shelter Manager Chey and Store Manager Dawn got to work earlier in the week getting the supplies and some extra funds and then when the team from Walmart came by, they got right to work! Pulling and raking weeds, moving big rocks, laying down mulch, switching out old pots for new pots, planting flowers. And in 2 hours, the front of our building looks brand new! And of course when all the hard work was done, they had to do a little lovin on the pets!

Meet a few of the new faces around! 🐱🐾

💕 Yoongi is a BIG 4 year old tabby coming in at about 16 pounds. This boy LOVES people! He is so affectionate and would probably be a lovely cuddle buddy. His past owner said that he does not like other cats unfortunately. He isn’t doing too bad here for being surrounded by them. Maybe a super chill, not nosy roommate? He also seems fine with dogs!

💕 Fiyero may be familiar, she isn’t “new”
but she is officially adoptable! After being being dumped, left to fend for herself for over a month, and then trapped, she was a little frightened when first finding herself at her fosters home. But after weeks of love and care, she has blossomed into a sweet, friendly and affectionate girl. She may still be a little weary at times but she is ready for her forever! We believe she is about 7 months old.

💕 and then Tofu, a one year old spunky and fun boy. He joined us after following one of his cool cat friends back to their house. Unfortunately his friends parents said he couldn’t stay. So they brought him to us! Tofu is super friendly and curious. We’re still learning more about him as he just came in Saturday, but as of now, he’s one cool dude!

Bugatti and Bronco, two super cool boys waiting for their forever home(s) ✨😎

These boys are about 7 months old and just the sweetest. They came from a little bit of a rough situation so it took a little bit for them to come around, and Bronco still has his moments (nothing more than hissing) but when they are comfortable, boy are they sweet! Bugatti, the black male, is enthusiastically affectionate. These boys love each other! We hope to find them a home together, a place that will give the same time we did to settle in and feel relaxed. Because once they have that, you will get 2 amazingly sweet cats.

That handsome man, is Archer 🐾🐶

This gorgeous 5 year old German Shepherd joined us a few weeks ago. He was surrendered at no fault of his and he is ready to find himself a home!

Archer is a loving, energetic boy that we adore. He has been super friendly in his time here, with people and other dogs. He always wants to be with his people, he loves to follow us around at we clean and comes when called while out in the yard. Archer loves to carry around a tennis ball! 🎾 We think this boy would make an amazing best friend for someone, maybe someone to join you on your hikes and adventures?

Party Time! Jax is headed home! 🥳🐾

In July of 2023, we welcomed Jax and his sister into the shelter. Unfortunately his sister Lily, passed suddenly within the week of entering the shelter, and Jax has been with us since. He has become a bit of a staple in the shelter lobby, always one of the first cats to catch the eyes of visitors and a favorite of staff and volunteers. Well this week, he finally caught the eye of Gage and AJ, his new people who fell in love upon seeing his Petfinder profile and then made their way here today to take him home. It was a match made in seconds. Jax was very happy to get his own adoption picture and give his new mom, Gage, a few head nudges. Good luck, Jax! We loved caring for you!

We were also honored to send home sweet Lotus with Sheryl on Friday! Sheryl needed a loving companion to share her home with and keep her company. Lotus fit the bill, and headed to her new home!

Chief hits the lake! 🐾🐟

Our amazing volunteer Ana chose Chief yesterday to join her for a hike on the trails and some playtime in WYCO Lake! He clearly had a blast and enjoyed his time out of the shelter. He loves getting out and spending time with people. This is the dog for your adventures!

Don’t forget that Chief will also be at PAIR Day on Fort Leavenworth tomorrow with volunteers from Fort Leavenworth Stray Facility! ❤️

We absolutely love receiving updates of the animals we cared for. We know sending them home that it’s okay if we don’t see them again, they are onto newer and better things. But we are so thankful to the folks that send us updates to let us know how their babies are doing!

LAWS works with our Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic to provide free spays and neuters to Leavenworth County residents! They also do so much other stuff to help with animal welfare within Leavenworth! But your tickets for the Spay-Ghetti dinner to help them continue their mission! 💚🎟️🍝

5 special kitties went to their new homes this week! 🐾✨

🐱 The lovely Nessa went home with Jacqueline and family from her foster home. It was a wonderful match!

🐱 With the family having two pups, Jayce convinced her parents it was time for a cat. They spent some time at our KCS and fell in love with our boy Bobby. Once Friday came, they were ready to take their boy home and spend the weekend helping him settle in!

🐱 We were able to finalize the adoption for Oz today! She was in a foster to adopt to make sure her new roommates got along with her. The cats aren’t crazy but they make do, and the dog is new best friend!

🐱 Handsome Poptart headed home with Julie and Kelly, family of one of our very own kennel attendants! He will be well loved and roommates with Hope Alum Mercedes ❤️

🐱 And finally, Horton has gone home with Megan! Megan found Horton online and fell in love! And as soon as she met him, she knew she was ready to take him home.

Her name, Stitch 😝👽

This cutie patootie joined us a few weeks ago, she wandered up to a house and asked for help. With attempts to find her home and no luck, miss girl came to us. What a treat! We adore this girl, she’s truly such a fun and sweet pup.

She loves all people and is well behaved. Follows us around, ignores the other pups, keeps a clean kennel. An excellent guest!

Now you may notice, our girl Stitch is a lil chunky. So we gotta hold off on getting her spayed until she loses a couple pounds. But we’re working on it, she’s working on it! And it’ll get done! But any adoption won’t be able to be finalized until it is done, but don’t let that stop you. We will work with any interested family and figure out the best way to get Stitch home to you and settling in as soon as possible! ❤️

You can stop in, take a peak and watch through the window or even meet these cuties anytime during KCS open hours. They love having visitors and hope one day, one of those visitors will be the one taking them home! ❤️

Meet Benny 🧡

This sweet boy joined us last week. He was surrendered because his family had a dog when they got him and unfortunately, Benny never acclimated to it. Anytime they were together, Benny didn’t relax. So he came here, and were ready to find him the perfect home.

Benny is just under a year old. He is sweet, affectionate and really a charmer. While he was a little scared when first arriving to us, it didn’t take him long to warm up and start showing his adorable personality. Despite not liking dogs, Benny has a blast with his new cat friends he’s made here!
