So Many Updates From AHHR! 🐴❤️
We have SO many updates to share, and we honestly couldn’t do any of it without all of you!
First and foremost, thank you to everyone who follows us, shares our posts, donates, volunteers, adopts, encourages us, and simply cheers us on. The last few weeks have kept us extremely busy, and now we are shifting gears and getting everything ready for winter.
After the drought, the fire season, evacuations, and everything else this summer has thrown at us, I can honestly say… I’m ready for snow—or at least rain every day! 😂
So, in no particular order, here we go!
🐴 BOOM DAYS WEEKEND WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
We worked hard getting our five donkeys ready for the Annual B***o Race, and they ALL did amazing!
Our five teams finished between 25th and 48th place out of 67 teams running the short course.
I am so incredibly proud of every single one of them. Most importantly, they all finished! ❤️
We also learned a LOT about each donkey—who loves to run, who would rather take their time, and who may need a little more convincing next year! 😂
We are already looking forward to 2027!
Past racers will get first choice of their donkeys, but we are keeping a list in case anyone decides not to race with the same donkey next year.
👉 Want to race in 2027? Get your name on the list now and be ready to start practicing in June 2027!
🤠 AND THEN WE WON FIRST PLACE!
We also had an absolute blast performing our fun outlaw skit in the Boom Days Parade—and we are
SO excited to announce that we took 1st Place in the Organizations category! 🏆
Our jumping outlaw, Bay Bandit, stole the show, and we loved training our miniature gelding to jump over our AHHR sign!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make that happen and to everyone who came out and supported us!
🌾 BOOM DAYS ALSO HELPED US WITH HAY!
All weekend long, we sold our handcrafted items and put visitors in JAIL to help raise money toward our hay bill!
And we have to give a HUGE shoutout to Rob Coombs, who built our jail for us! It was such a fun addition to the weekend and helped us raise money while having a whole lot of laughs.
Because of everyone's support, we raised $800 toward hay during Boom Days weekend! 🎉
🏟️ OUR NEW ARENA IS COMING TOGETHER!
We also have some exciting news about our new arena!
Thanks to Leadville Rental Center and Ronald Booth, we are finally able to start bringing in the sand for our new arena and our second round pen! ❤️
This is something we have been working toward, and we are so excited to see it finally coming together.
And we have BIG plans for next summer!
Our new arena will allow us to host even more fundraising events and activities while creating another place where our supporters and the community can come together and enjoy the animals.
We are already working on ideas for next summer, and we can't wait to show you what we have planned!
A huge THANK YOU to Leadville Rental Center and Ronald Booth for helping make this possible. We truly appreciate your support of AHHR! 🐴❤️
👢 KID'S HAND MUCKING
To round out our weekend, we held our annual Kid's Hand Mucking event on Sunday.
We absolutely LOVE this event. Watching the kids participate, cheering them on, and seeing how excited they get is always one of our favorite parts of Boom Days.
We would also love to hear your feedback!
What did you like? What could we do differently? What would make the event even more fun?
We always want to make our events better, and your feedback helps us do that!
🏡 ADOPTIONS!
Now for some REALLY exciting news!
We have several adoptions in the works, and if everything goes as planned, we will have 5 more horses/donkeys heading to their forever homes! ❤️
That would bring us to a total of 7 adoptions this year!
We will share pictures and updates as soon as everything is officially finalized.
We still have a couple of horses available for adoption, and we will be introducing them soon.
Our goal going into winter is to have primarily our forever residents here at the rescue. That will allow us to focus on getting everyone settled and prepared for winter, while hopefully opening space to welcome new rescues in the spring.
🌾 HAY FUNDRAISING UPDATE
We are continuing to work hard on our hay fund!
Thanks to everyone who supported us during Boom Days, we were able to raise another $800.
We have also had to make some adjustments to hauling. The cost will not increase, but our loads will be smaller.
Each load is now $6,200.
For our next load, we currently need $1,800 more, with the $2,400 grant already included in what we have raised.
Every dollar truly helps us get that next load home. ❤️
And if you aren't able to donate right now, please share our posts! Sharing costs nothing and can put our fundraiser in front of someone who may be able to help.
🛍️ COMING NEXT: ONLINE SILENT AUCTION!
We are planning an online silent auction next month to help raise money toward our third load of hay!
If you would like to donate an item, basket, service, or gift card, please send us a message.
We will be picking up local donations this coming Monday. If you are in one of the surrounding counties and would like to donate, please let me know and I will do my best to arrange pickup before September 1st.
Every donation helps us turn items into hay for the animals!
❄️ WINTER ORIENTATION
Our final update is about our upcoming Winter Orientation!
We will be holding two orientation clinics:
📅 September 1st — Weekday Clinic
📅 September 5th — Weekend Clinic
⏰ 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
You only need to attend ONE of the two days.
During orientation, we will cover:
• What we do at AHHR and how we do it
• Winter procedures
• Rescue safety training
• Volunteer expectations
• Basic handling of our rescues
• And, if time allows, getting some hands-on experience starting with our miniature rescues
If you would like to attend, please message us with which date you would like to attend.
And remember—just because winter is coming doesn't mean the fun stops!
There is still plenty we can do with our rescues during the winter months, and we love having people come out, learn, help, and spend time with the animals.
❤️ From Boom Days, to b***o racing, to winning the parade, to building our new arena, to adoptions, to hay fundraising, and now preparing for winter—these last few weeks have been BUSY!
We couldn't do any of it without our incredible supporters.
Thank you for standing beside Andrew’s Heavenly Horse Rescue and helping us continue to give these animals the second chance they deserve.
🐴❤️ Here’s to getting through winter together and making 2027 even bigger and better!
