Cat Care Society

Cat Care Society Our mission is to be a safe and enriching place for all cats on their journey to a loving home. Located in Lakewood, CO
(256)

Cat Care Society is a non-profit, limited-admission cat shelter founded in 1981 to improve the quality of life for cats in need in the Denver metro area. Our unique and free-roaming approach views all cats as worthy, regardless of their age or abilities. We are non-discriminatory in our love for cats and take in cats that may not have a chance anywhere else. This includes cats that have tested pos

itive for FIV or FeLV, or have been diagnosed with chronic health conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease. We pride ourselves in finding these cats loving homes and educating cat owners on the care requirements for cats with special needs. We provide a temporary refuge for cats in need until an appropriate home can be found for each. Veterinary care, premium diet, and human interaction are lovingly provided by dedicated staff and volunteers. Approximately 800 cats come into our care each year! As we receive no government funding, Cat Care Society is supported by a number of loyal volunteers, donors, and partners, without whom we could not operate. Our staff and board of directors work together to ensure that every cat receives an enriching environment and the opportunity to find a home where they can flourish.

Meet our Lonely Hearts Club Member, Lilly!

This 12-year-old gal may not seem like it but she is the sweetest and most playful senior kitty you'll meet! Lilly blossomed while in foster but isn't a fan of the shelter and will thrive in a home environment where she can truly be herself. She loves to hang on the catio when it's nice out, play with wand toys, and appreciates chin scratches when they are on her terms!

As a bonus, Lilly has no teeth, so no need to worry about expensive dental visits in the future!

Lilly's ideal home would be one where she can be the only pet with an adopter who can accommodate all of her medical needs. CCS staff will be more than willing to go over with any potential adopters to ensure all parties are set up for success.

This , we're highlighting Maggie!

Maggie is a sweet, sassy 8-year-old grey tabby who loves being in the same room as her humans and happily greets them when they wake, when they come home from work, and before bed. She has a cute little meow that lets you know that she would like some pets, and also loves to be brushed. She does well with meeting new people and enjoys the company of other cats. In her free time, she can be found perched on high places, having zoomies while attacking toy mice, and loafing in the middle of where you need to walk. Maggie has been with us for a few months now, and we'd love to see her find a loving home soon.

To learn more about Maggie and schedule a meet-and-greet, please email [email protected].

When Nova arrived at Cat Care Society, she was carrying a heavy burden.

At 11 years old, Nova should have been settling into a peaceful “retirement” chapter of life. Instead, she was suffering from painful bladder stones, chronic urinary issues, arthritis, severe constipation, dehydration, and dental disease.

We knew Nova's recovery would take time.

Over the next 10 months, she received extensive medical care, including diagnostic testing, dental surgery, treatment for infection, daily medications, specialized nutrition, and ongoing monitoring. There were setbacks along the way. Some days she refused food. Other days required intensive intervention to keep her comfortable and on the path to recovery.

At Cat Care Society, cats with complex medical needs are given the time and individualized care they need to truly heal. All deserve the chance to recover fully, even when that journey is long.

As Nova’s health improved, she moved into foster care, where her personality began to return. With steady support from foster caregivers and the medical team, she slowly regained strength, comfort, and curiosity.

Eventually, Nova was ready for a home of her own.

Not long after adopting Nova, Ellen began caring for her father in hospice. During one of the most difficult times in her life, Nova became a constant source of comfort.

"Nova was so loving and affectionate with my father the week he passed. She knew he needed the extra attention and she was by his side through everything. It melted my heart and solidified her place in the family." — Ellen, Nova's adopter

Every day, more cats like Nova arrive at Cat Care Society — older, in pain, and in need of extensive treatment and patience. And every day, future adopters walk through our doors looking for a cat who will bring connection, comfort, and meaning into their lives.

Your gift today helps ensure that cats like Nova and adopters like Ellen can receive the support they need tomorrow and beyond.

Meet our Lonely Hearts Club Member, Hubert!

At 5-years-old Hubert is a quiet, gentle soul with loving eyes that say, "Take me home!" He enjoys back scratches and would love nothing more than a cozy lap to curl up in. He isn't as playful as some other cats at the shelter and prefers to take a more lazy cat approach to his day. You can often find Hubert stretching and clawing up a good kitty scratcher during his morning and evening yoga routine and will slow blink happily at anyone who will baby talk him while they visit.

Hubert's idea of a purr-fect home is one that is zen where he can relax with no young children. He may be selective towards the cats he gets along with but will generally get along fine with an equally independent and lazy cat like himself. A potential adopter will also need to be able to accommodate Hubert's medical needs, which CCS staff will be happy to share with anyone interested in giving a home to this gentle lazy guy. Come meet Hubert today and see if he’s the missing piece of your heart and home!

Camden is the sweetest and most playful 10-year-old lady you will meet! Her favorite pastime activities include: playing in the sink, working hard on her biscuit making (taking it so seriously she puts all four paws into it!), being carried like a baby, and hugging her feet close while she snoozes! Camden's ideal home will be one that can continue her medical care in the home and help continue to manage her diabetes. CCS staff will make things easy and go over in detail how to care for diabetes in cats.

Camden is thriving in a loving foster home! To learn more about her and set up a meet and greet, please email [email protected]. You’ll receive an overview of any medical or behavioral disclaimers to review before scheduling an in-person meeting.
