HVAC UPDATE ❤️
We know many of you have been following our HVAC journey, donated, and have been patiently waiting for updates. We want to continue being transparent about where things stand.
To date, we have raised approximately $15,000 toward our HVAC project, and those funds remain dedicated to this work.
This has been a much more complicated issue than simply replacing an AC unit. After multiple HVAC companies evaluated our building (5 we believe), we learned:
❄️ Our current AC units are oversized for our space.
❄️ We do not have adequate air returns.
❄️ Our ductwork needs cleaning and improvements to properly support the system.
We have completed some temporary fixes, including coil cleaning, refrigerant checks, and duct scoping with a few companies. These steps have helped our AC function more consistently, but they are temporary solutions; not a permanent fix. We have been tokd the system could freeze again at any time without addressing the underlying issues.
What’s next:
📅 August 31 – Full duct cleaning
This requires careful planning because all cats in affected areas must be safely contained before work can begin.
After that:
✔️ Add additional air returns
✔️ Evaluate system performance
✔️ Determine where heat pumps are needed and where
✔️ Move forward with the best long-term solution
Our estimates for the full HVAC solution range from $20,000–$36,000+, depending on the path we take.
We know it may feel like progress has been slow, but we have been working behind the scenes to understand the problem before investing thousands of dollars into a solution that won’t last.
Thank you to everyone who donated, advocated, and continues to care about the cats in our community. Our goal remains the same: a safe, comfortable environment for every cat in our care. ❤️
