🚨Dani & Sky Update:
In the last two days the girls have seen the vet, the farrier, and the vet again (dental).
Dani had two loose teeth. One had to be extracted, and the other was cut down and we will keep an eye on. She had a blown out abscess in her front right hoof (recent but now healing), and has insulin resistance (her insulin level was 63) (10-40 is normal). She is on a diet of 24/7 timothy hay and 2x a day mash of alfalfa pellets and Enrich Plus.
Sky is missing 80% of her teeth on her left side. She is missing some teeth on her right, and one tooth on her right side literally fell out as the vet was doing the exam. She had holes in her mouth where the hay she hasn’t been able to chew has been stuck and rotting. She is likely underweight due to not being able to chew what she had access to (no mash). She will need to be on only mash diet, fed 13.5lbs of senior feed (4.5 lbs, 3x a day). She had very long points on some teeth that were driving into her gums where she was missing teeth.
The girls are slowing recovering and getting the care the desperately needed.
