PAAD: Promoting Animal ADoptions We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions for the SPCA of Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY)

We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions (PAAD) for the SPCA of Tompkins County (NY). The animals we feature on this page need a little extra boost for one reason or another. Some may have very specific requests for their new homes. Some have been waiting a long time to meet the right people. Some may have arrived at the TC SPCA with health problems, or with puppies or kitt

ens in tow, and needed extra time and care to be ready to join a family. Our goal is to show off these amazing animals with photos, videos, and information directly from the volunteers who hang out with them every week. Be sure to check out the SPCA's website for information about adopting a new pet and to see all the animals available for adoption: www.spcaonline.com/adopting-pets

Sometimes is about relaxing instead of adventuring. Queen understands the importance of this balance. Sure, going on walks with friends or throwing a ball around is good fun, but at some point a girl just needs to lie down on the couch and have a good snooze! Sleeping soundly at the shelter can be difficult. There are always other dogs around, people coming and going, doors banging open. It's a lot. Fortunately for Queen, one of her besties takes her out for a day-foster so Queen can relax outside of the shelter.

Queen is looking for a couch to share with a special person (or to have for herself sometimes). She wants a person (maybe a couple people) who will adore her as the Queen she is! That means you will not try to make her share her quality time with you with other dogs, cats, or young humans. That would not make her happy, which means no one else would be happy either. We want happy tails for everyone!

If you'd like to meet Queen, stop by the SPCA of Tompkins County during open hours: Tuesday-Sunday 12-4:30 PM (Thursdays until 6:30 PM). Or contact the Adoptions Team to ask more about her: [email protected] or (607) 257-1822 x221.

Happy with Sorsha! This beautiful lady has mesmerizing eyes and the most adorable and unique facial markings. Doesn't it look like she's wearing wire-rimmed eyeglasses or old fashioned spectacles?

Sorsha came to the SPCA of Tompkins County with many of her roommates when there were just too many of them in 1 home. This has meant a lot of change in her life recently and she's still getting used to everything. When you go visit her, give her a minute to check you out. Once she's smelled you to make sure you're an ok human, you'll see her friendly, social nature. Sorsha's volunteer friends tell us that she's very confident and hangs out in the common area and will accept full body drive by pets. She's still a little wary of hands suddenly coming towards her or loud noises, but she'll likely outgrow that once she's in a home with a loving family.

If you'd like to meet Sorsha (or any of her feline friends), stop by the adoption center Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30).

This lovely young lady has whiskers almost as long as her name: Deep Space Sparkle! She's a shy but friendly girl who loves to give head butts or chin rubs. If you go in to meet the Adorable DSS, as her friends call her, and she's hiding in her carrier or on her hidey shelf, just give her a minute. Talk softly and let her set the terms of your interactions. You'll likely get rewarded with cute chin rubs just like this!

Puppy dog eyes. Always!

Sweet Rocky is checking all the boxes in his effort to find a home of his very own! He has such a gentle, sensitive soul that deserves the very best. He can be a little shy with new people and may take a couple of visits to feel fully comfortable, but once you're in his circle, you're in for life. Rocky is looking for a calm, understanding home where he can set the pace. He prefers things a bit on the mellow side, so small kiddos or chaotic environments might be overwhelming.

To meet this most handsome good boy, stop by the adoption center Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30) and one of Rocky's friends will be happy to introduce you to him.

These 2-month old cuties are finishing up with their foster families and will be available for adoption on Thursday, August 21st. While the picture shows 6 puppies, there are 8 total cutiepies ready to begin lifelong adventures in their new homes. Prior to adoption, they will be altered, microchipped, and vaccinated.

Interested? Please contact our adoptions team to learn more and complete an application. You can reach the shelter by email: [email protected]
or by phone during open hours: 607-257-1822 x221.

Note: while we expect all 8 pups to be available for adoption on Thursday, foster fails do happen 😁 so we suggest visiting the shelter as the first step. SPCA of Tompkins County

No joke - today is ! And also so we let sweet, funny Kagan tell the jokes today. 😸

Polly may be walking away from the joke, but in all seriousness, there are a lot of kittens (and adult cats) at the SPCA of Tompkins County right now! So if you've been thinking about adopting a cat (or 2!) now is a great time to head over to the SPCA and interview with the cats! They're open for visitors Wednesday-Sunday, from noon-4:30 pm (with extended hours until 6:30 on Thursdays).

Silly Goose is all in (or out?) for ! This sweet, friendly, funny lady is enthusiastic about many things in life. Toys. Walks. Laps. Silly Goose loves to sit in a lap! At 52 pounds some people may think she's a bit large to be a "lap dog". They are mistaken.

If you're looking for a loving, snuggly, dog who will keep you company but is also content to be on her own for a bit, you should stop by the SPCA of Tompkins County and meet Silly Goose. The shelter is open for visitors Wednesday-Sunday from noon-4:30 pm, with extended hours on Thursday until 6:30 pm.
