PAAD: Promoting Animal ADoptions We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions for the SPCA of Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY)

We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions (PAAD) for the SPCA of Tompkins County (NY). The animals we feature on this page need a little extra boost for one reason or another. Some may have very specific requests for their new homes. Some have been waiting a long time to meet the right people. Some may have arrived at the TC SPCA with health problems, or with puppies or kitt

ens in tow, and needed extra time and care to be ready to join a family. Our goal is to show off these amazing animals with photos, videos, and information directly from the volunteers who hang out with them every week. Be sure to check out the SPCA's website for information about adopting a new pet and to see all the animals available for adoption: www.spcaonline.com/adopting-pets

Margo had great fun playing in the play yard with her volunteer friends. She also enjoyed playing an early April Fools joke on them! 😆

If you're looking for a sweet, goofy, lovable young dog, stop by to ask about Margo! The SPCA is open for visitors Tuesday-Sunday:12-4:30 PM (Thursdays: 12-6:30 PM).

Today is an extra-special because it's also Fairy Fest in downtown Ithaca! 🧚‍♀️ In honor of this ethereal occasion, we bring you Spirit Winifred! (Spirit ... fairy...close enough) This lovely young lady and her sister Skarlett have recently arrived at the SPCA of Tompkins County. They've also been recently spayed - can you spot Spirit's naked belly? Both are friendly, sociable girls. We hear Spirit even seemed happy to be picked up gently and carried around for a while.

Spirit won't be attending today because she'll be interviewing potential adopters at the SPCA. If you'd like to meet Spirit Winifred, or any of the other kitties looking for homes, stop by the SPCA from noon-4:30 pm Tuesday-Sunday. They're also open until 6:30 on Thursdays.

It's the first of spring, the time when we look for pops of green appearing everywhere! As today is gray and snowing, we suggest you look for those pops of green in Snuffles's beautiful green eyes! You may have to look on a high shelf to see Miss Snuffles. Her volunteer friends tell us she may need a little gentle coaxing to come down and be social. We're all still getting to know Snuffles so don't have a lot of intel to share. We know she's lived with other kitties in the past, so may appreciate having cat siblings in her new home. After a slow period of introduction.

Slow introductions are important. We certainly wouldn't like having someone we've never met before plunked down in the middle of our living room and told they're our new roommate! It's easier to get used to the idea of a new roomie when you each have your own space as you get to know each other in small doses.

If you'd like to meet Snuffles and see if you're a match for each other, stop by the SPCA during open hours:
Tue-Wed: noon-4:30 pm
Thu: noon-6:30 pm
Fri-Sun: noon-4:30 pm

Akre is happy to celebrate with you, especially if it involves going for a hike or playing ball! He shared this delightful blep during a recent hike with one of his volunteer friends. The volunteer reports that Akre was a "perfect angel"!

If you'd like to meet this handsome, friendly guy, stop by the SPCA of Tompkins County during open hours: Tuesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm (until 6:30 pm on Thursdays).

Happy ! Last Caturday we introduced you to Dean, this week we'd like you to meet his brother Sam! Sam and Dean came to the SPCA of Tompkins County after their person died. Both boys were very shy and scared at first, but have relaxed and become more sociable after being at the shelter for a few weeks. One of Sam's volunteer friends has this report of her recent visit with him: "He came right out from his carrier.... He allowed full body pets—he’s so plush!!—and cheek scritches and he definitely seems lap curious. Such a nice boy!! It’s great to finally see these little guys’ purrsonalities come out as they gain confidence and feel safer. "

If you'd like to meet Sam and experience his sweet purrsonality and wonderfully plush fur, stop by the SPCA during visiting hours:
Tues-Wed: noon-4:30 pm
Thur: noon-6:30 pm
Fri-Sun: noon-4:30 pm

Happy first day of spring! 🌷🪻If it's spring, it must be picnic season, right? Unless it's snowing. ❄️ Buddy Jr is at the picnic table and ready! He doesn't mind if you want to sit there with him, in fact, he'd probably really like it! Can he sit in your lap?

If you'd like to meet Buddy Jr, maybe have a picnic or visit in the play yard, stop by the SPCA of Tompkins County during open hours: Tuesday-Sunday from noon-4:30 pm, or until 6:30 pm on Thursdays.

Young Chansey is showing off her multiple talents for . She's relaxing in a down pose, showing off her tongue, and holding her ball in her mouth! This sweet girl came to the SPCA of Tompkins County as a stray so we don't know about her background. What we do know is she's a wiggly and friendly young gal! She might do all right in a home with another pup who has a similar play style. She's still young, so she's got some energy to burn and would love an active family to run her ragged during the day and then lounge around in the evening. She'd probably enjoy a nice hike on one of the areas many trails!

Want to meet Chansey and see if she's a match for your family? Visit our adoption center Tuesday-Sunday: 12:00-4:30 PM (Thursday: 12:00-6:30 PM)

Happy Saint Patrick's Day from everyone at the SPCA of Tompkins County! Several of the pets who have been waiting for homes for a while are hoping the "Luck o' the Irish" can help them find homes this week! You can improve their luck by sharing this video or telling your friends about these great pets waiting to find their people! Learn more about each of them at www.spcaonline.com

Sir Malcolm and Olof would especially like you to know that today is also Saint Gertrude's Day, patron saint of cats!

The SPCA is closed today, but you can stop by and visit Tuesday through Sunday from noon-4:30 pm, or until 6:30 pm on Thursday.

Happy from Dean. This handsome tabby boy came to the SPCA of Tompkins County with his brother Sam after their owner passed away. The boys were - understandably - pretty nervous about all the changes in their world and spent a lot of time hiding when they first arrived. After weeks of patient, calm solicitations from SPCA staff and volunteers, Dean has turned into a social dude! He enjoys being petted and socializing with people. One of his volunteer friends reported recently that he came out of his hidey spot and curled up in her lap, where he proceeded to purr and make biscuits!

Do you want to meet the delightful Dean? Stop by the SPCA adoption center Tuesday-Sunday, 12:00-4:30 PM or Thursday from 12:00-6:30 PM.

Emerald is rockin' his lovely, long, white whiskers! This handsome guy was in pretty rough shape when he arrived at the SPCA of Tompkins County from the cold streets of Ithaca, but with the love of a foster family and amazing care from our medical staff, he's looking so much better! Emerald is as friendly as can be, even when he has the sniffles. He loves human affection and will make you biscuits for days while you give him pets and scritches.

If you'd like to meet sweet, friendly Emerald, you should stop by the SPCA soon. One of our volunteers has threatened to put him in a pocket and sneak him out of the building! You can visit Emerald and the other cats at the SPCA adoption center Tuesday-Sunday: 12:00-4:30 PM, or for extended hours on Thursday: 12:00-6:30 PM.

Why, yes Bori, it is a very sunny ! We think handsome, 4-year old Bori looks pretty cute squinting into the sun. Don't you agree?

Bori is hanging out at the SPCA of Tompkins County, waiting for the right people to come along and fall in love with him! He's a shy guy, so you'll need to be patient with him. It may take him a few minutes to creep over to you to say hello. It helps if you have treats; his fav is Pupperoni. Bori is kind of a homebody, happiest hanging out in the yard with his closest friends. When he's relaxed and with humans he's friends with, his goofy side comes out and he's ready for some rambunctious play!

If you'd like to meet Bori, stop by the shelter during open hours: Tuesday-Sunday, noon-4:30 pm, or until 6:30 pm on Thursdays.

Happy and Happy International Women's Day! Today we introduce Pancita! We thought it appropriate to feature a calico (or calico with tabby, in Pancita's case) for since calico cats are almost exclusively female. (Yes, there can be male calicoes, but it's rare since cat coloring is related to X chromosomes.)

Pancita is a sweet, senior kitty, who enjoys a good conversation. She came to the SPCA of Tompkins County when her former person died. Pancita has lived with other cats before so could be fine living with cats in your home, after a proper period of introduction. If you'd like to meet Pancita, stop by the SPCA during open hours: Tuesday-Sunday: 12-4:30, or Thursdays 12-6:30 pm.
