🎆 New Year’s Reminder 🐾

If your pet gets anxious or frightened by fireworks or gatherings, now is the time to prepare. Please remember to pick up any prescribed medications before New Year’s Eve so you’re ready ahead of the celebrations.

Fireworks and gatherings can be stressful for many pets, and having their medication on hand can make a big difference in keeping them calm and comfortable.

Winter weight gain is real — even for pets!
Many dogs and cats burn fewer calories in the winter, especially when colder weather leads to shorter walks and less activity.

Why pets gain weight in winter:
• Fewer outdoor adventures
• More indoor lounging
• Holiday treats (we see you!)
• Slower metabolism during colder months

Maintaining a healthy weight supports your pet’s joints, heart, and long-term health.

Simple winter weight-management tips:
• Adjust portion sizes if activity decreases
• Add short indoor play sessions
• Keep walks consistent when possible
• Consider a vet-approved weight management plan

If you’re worried about winter weight gain, we’re happy to help with personalized pet nutrition and weight management advice.

Salt, snow, and ice can be tough on paws!
As temperatures drop, road salt, frozen sidewalks, and snow buildup can irritate your pet’s feet and lead to cracking, dryness, or chemical burns.

Winter paw safety tips for dogs & cats:
• Wipe paws after every walk
• Use pet-safe ice melters when possible
• Apply paw balm before going outside
• Check between toes for packed snow or ice
• Consider booties for sensitive paws

Remember — winter paw care is an important part of cold weather pet safety.
If your pet is limping, licking their paws, or has redness between the toes, schedule an exam so we can help them feel comfortable again!

How cold is too cold for pets?
If you’re bundling up, chances are your pets need extra protection too!

Cold weather can put dogs and cats at risk for hypothermia, frostbite, and joint discomfort, especially seniors, small breeds, and pets with short coats. When temps drop below 45°F, start keeping outdoor time short. Under 32°F, limit walks and watch closely for shivering, lifting paws, or wanting to head back inside.

Quick cold-weather tips:
• Keep walks short on freezing days
• Wipe paws after being outside
• Use sweaters/coats for chilly pets
• Never leave pets outside unattended

If you’re unsure how the cold may affect your pet, we’re here to help.
