At HAH, we are dedicated to educating pet owners about the dangers of heartworm disease. Heartworms are spread when an infected mosquito bites a dog, transferring heartworm larvae into the bloodstream. These larvae mature and travel to the heart, where they settle and grow into adult worms in about 4 to 5 months. The adult worms then continue to thrive, producing new larvae and spreading the infection.

In the early stages, heartworm infection can be nearly impossible to detect. Pets often show no signs of illness and seem perfectly normal. However, as the infection advances, symptoms such as coughing, fatigue, lethargy, lack of interest in play or exercise, decreased appetite, and weight loss can become more apparent. By this stage, the infection is usually more severe, and your pet may be suffering from some form of heart disease.

Prevention is key! Early detection and regular preventive care can help protect your pets from this life-threatening disease. Best way to protect your BFF is using preventions year around and annual blood screening ( Heartworm test).
