We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing volunteers and fosters.

They make sure every dog gets time outside their kennel, every cat gets attention and affection, and that their foster pet has a safe place to stay while they wait for a forever home. They help pack food for our Pet Pantry, keeping bowls full and families together, help at events, and so much more.

These incredible people are at the heart of the Houston Humane Society mission, and we’re so grateful for all the time, love, and effort they give.

It was wonderful seeing so many of them at our recent appreciation party. We can’t wait to see all the good they’ll do in 2026! 💙

We're wrapping up 2025 with lots of , and today we're celebrating Buddy!

His adopter said, "Buddy was the first dog I walked when I started being a dog walker volunteer and we fell in love with each other. I had to take him home with me. He's been the sweetest, goofiest and goodest boy ever. He's so good with his sister and every other pet and humans. He was in the shelter for over 100 days. We are so lucky to have our Buddy."

We wrapped up the year with an epic staff holiday party! 🎉🎄

Thanks to our incredible Staff Newsletter Club and the Paws & Celebrate Committee for pulling off an afternoon full of twinkly lights, tasty food, photo ops, and even a visit from Santa Claus himself (with hot cocoa and newsletters in hand, of course)!

It was the perfect way to celebrate all the hard work our Houston Humane Society team has done this year.

Here’s to an unforgettable 2025 and an even better 2026! 🥂🐾

'Tis the season to celebrate a few of the amazing adoptions that happened this year!

Tokyo got his Happy Tail when a Houston Humane Society team member fell in love while fostering him, his mom, and his siblings.

Born in a shelter, Tokyo spent his early days bouncing between facilities before coming to us. One of our incredible staff members took in the whole family (mom and eight puppies!) and cared for them with patience and love until they were ready for adoption.

By then, she knew Tokyo was meant to stay.

Now he's living his best life with two older dog siblings in a home filled with comfort, safety, and love. ❤️

We're celebrating Paris on this ! 💛

Paris was adopted by Matt, a volunteer here at the Houston Humane Society. He says:

"Paris was brought in from the streets of Houston in 2019 when we just started to volunteer at HHS. She had heartworm disease and was so scared she would NOT come out of her kennel. We had to carry her out to give her affection, but she wouldn't walk.

She was the friendliest, most loving dog, so we decided to sponsor her heartworm treatment to help her get adopted. Two months later we brought her home to foster her. She was our first foster and also became our first adopted rescue. We have since fostered many dogs and adopted some as well. She's now part of a pack of 6 that love the country life!"
